Base pay range

$98,000.00/yr - $160,000.00/yr

Software Guidance & Assistance, Inc., (SGA), is searching for a Manager, Gross Margin Regulatory Accounting Role for a FULL TIME assignment with one of our premier Utility Industry clients in Saco, ME/Clinton, CT/New Braunfels, TX/San Jose, CA.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare detailed monthly reports analyzing changes in revenue and production costs, including price/volume analysis, rate filing impacts, usage, customer growth, and weather.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to provide insights on gross margin performance.
  • Establish, document, and maintain controls, policies, and procedures.
  • Support and provide oversight for applicable SOX controls.
  • This is a functional leadership role suited for someone who is dynamic and enjoys a fast-changing environment.

Required Skills:

  • Strong knowledge of U.S. generally accepted accounting principles and internal controls.
  • Approximately ten years of professional-level accounting experience, including five years in a leadership role. Diversified experience with financial accounting systems, spreadsheets, and database software is desirable. Advanced Excel skills required.
  • Solid knowledge of integrated financial systems and how they relate to infrastructure and reporting to support decision-making. Experience upgrading or implementing new accounting systems is a plus.
  • Relevant experience in the utility industry is required.
  • Exceptional analytical and reasoning skills, with strong intellectual curiosity. Strong planning and organization skills.
  • Proactive problem-solving skills and ability to develop collaborative solutions. Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to interact and build relationships across all organizational levels.
  • Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and contribute effectively as a team member.
  • High attention to detail and strong technical and leadership skills.
  • Experience managing a multi-location team is a plus.

Previous Experience:

  • Accounting and analysis related to revenues and production costs across all states.
  • Regulatory accounting, including understanding state-specific requirements, implementing rate case decisions, and managing regulatory mechanisms.
  • Month-end close of gross margin and water accounting, including unbilled revenue, analysis, audits, financial reporting, and projects.
  • Managing a multi-state team, including recruiting, hiring, training, developing, and performance evaluations.
  • Supporting rate case proceedings, including preparation of filing schedules, responding to data requests, and participating in testimony.
  • Working with FP&A to support budgeting and forecasting related to gross margin and regulatory accounts.
  • Research, accounting memos, and working with external auditors.
  • Implementing new accounting standards and contributing to workflow improvements.
