The main responsibilities of the Manager, Corporate Accounting, are to provide a strong review, assessment, and stewardship of the accounting and control environment for City of Hope, specifically around Fixed Assets and Lease Accounting. This role is accountable for developing, maintaining, and monitoring compliance with a governance framework through liaising with internal stakeholders as well as the organization's external auditors.

This position will also be responsible for leading, engaging, and developing a team of direct reports. The associate in this role will be expected to work with direct reports in creating an environment of continuous improvement related to work quality and operational efficiency.

Further, this position will be accountable for various month-end close responsibilities, including but not limited to approval (and preparation in select instances) of journal entries, preparation of financial schedules related to leases and fixed assets (including involvement in quarterly disclosures and the year-end audit), and establishing a methodology for timely review of balance sheet reconciliations.

Additionally, the person in this role will be required to make recommendations to address gaps within the Fixed Asset and Lease Accounting areas that could lead to financial misstatements or governance issues. These recommendations should be based on discussions with the manager and internal audit team where necessary.

As a successful candidate, you will:

  • Understand and support the institutional and departmental goals, strategies, and policies; work with direct reports to carry out responsibilities efficiently while fostering a deeper organizational understanding. Adapt to change in the complex healthcare industry as needed.

  • Develop and maintain a proper control environment supporting accurate financial reporting of leases and fixed assets in accordance with US GAAP.

  • Manage all accounting matters related to lease accounting, from classification to journal entries.

  • Monitor leases to ensure timely accounting for modifications and terminations.

  • Manage and oversee fixed assets accounting to ensure accurate and timely reporting.

  • Support quarterly and annual reporting and audit requirements, communicating with system leads regarding Fixed Assets and Leases.

  • Plan, delegate, and monitor workflow of direct reports to ensure high performance and integrity of financial statements.

Your qualifications should include:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related Business field.
  • 5-7 years of relevant experience, preferably in a corporate finance setting.
  • 1 year of leadership experience.
  • CPA License preferred.
  • Strong review, assessment, and stewardship skills for Fixed Assets and Lease Accounting environments.
