JOB SUMMARY: The Clinical Simulation Curriculum Manager manages the Healthcare Outreach Simulation Manager, Simulation Educators/Faculty, and RN Refreshers to include staff supervision, evaluation, scheduling and coordination of simulation events. This role is responsible for managing the design and development of simulation training programs, curriculum, methods, and materials for various nursing and allied health programs. This position also provides oversite and management for simulation based education with various healthcare entities across Western North Carolina, the Primary Nurse Planner role, nursing programs in the Simulation Center, the NC AHEC RN Refresher Program and all NC AHEC nursing program grants for the MAHEC Region. The Clinical Simulation Curriculum Manger provides leadership in all aspects of intraprofessional healthcare simulation in order to advance the quality of healthcare, improve patient safety outcomes and to promote best practice of simulation in clinical education and research. SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Adheres to the INSACL standards of best practice as the foundation for the provision of a quality simulation experience that is focused on improving quality outcomes
  • Develops, teaches, and oversees educational programs for in-person, in situ, and online courses for allied health and nursing disciplines
  • Consults with subject matter experts to define learning objectives and to design appropriate course content and training curriculum
  • Evaluates training effectiveness and analyzes outcomes to determine ROI and recommends changes to simulation programs
  • Directs simulation experiences to include the use and facilitation of high fidelity manikins for scenarios for healthcare programs
  • Recruits and hires qualified candidates in collaboration with the Director of the Simulation Center
  • Functions as a nurse planner for continuing education programs and oversees the Primary Nurse Planner position
  • Serves as a leader in the Simulation Center, works with other leadership to provide an inclusive, positive environment for all employees, and actively participates in the Simulation Center strategic plan
  • Develops and maintains relationships with community colleges, universities, and healthcare facilities across Western North Carolina
  • Supports and contributes to local and statewide projects and opportunities in simulation
  • Develops programs that meet the goals and initiatives of the NC AHEC Program, MAHEC and the Department of Continuing Professional Development
  • Provides clinical placement, supervision, and skills training for the MAHEC RN Refreshers
  • Seeks out and maintains relationships and affiliate contracts with multiple healthcare facilities in Western North Carolina
  • Monitor and reports participants and regional outcomes of the NC AHEC RN Refresher Program to the NC AHEC Program Office
  • Maintains American Heart Association (AHA) instructor status and teaches Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) and Basic Life Support (BLS).
  • Mentors and precepts nursing students of varying degree programs
  • Attends and represents MAHEC at the NC AHEC Nurse Council meetings, NC AHEC RN Refresher Program and other relevant events/meetings.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provides supervision to Healthcare Outreach Simulation Manager, Simulation Educators/Faculty, and NC AHEC RN Refreshers
  • Works collaboratively with the Simulation Center Director, Simulation Center Medical Director, Operational Simulation Manager and Medical Education Simulation Manager
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor degree in nursing; Masters in Nursing preferred
  • 5 years clinical experience
  • 2 years managerial and leadership experience
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, analytical and organizational skills
  • Ability to move equipment and learning materials (up to 50 pounds)
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Masters degree or higher in Nursing
  • BLS, PALS and ACLS certification, instructor status within 6 months
  • Experience with healthcare simulation
  • Ability to travel to various other healthcare facilities, as needed
REQUIRED LICENSES:
  • Registered nurse - holding a current, valid, and unencumbered NC license
SCHEDULE: Regular attendance on-site is an essential function of this position. Typical business hours are Monday - Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm (or flexed to best meet the needs of the clients and/or the Division); 40 hours per workweek; weekend, holiday, or evening coverage is occasionally required. Work hours will need to be flexible in order to respond to special work assignments, or evening activities, as requested by the team leader.
