Job Description The Manager of Clinical Documentation Improvement is responsible for daily operations of the organizations CDI Specialists. He/She will be primarily responsible for managing the Clinical Documentation Specialists staff and their performance, productivity, and accuracy including daily concurrent initial and follow up reviews, appropriate and compliant documentation queries, interactions with coders, and the patient care team. Works collaboratively with the Manager of IP Coding and providers to ensure quality clinical documentation to support appropriate severity of illness, expected risk of mortality and complexity of patient care. Oversees orientation and education of new providers to the organizations CDI program. Responsibilities Schedule and coordinate staffing levels and assignments to ensure expected CDI daily reviews and DNFB goals are met Supervise, train, and support CDI Specialist Perform personnel management work, including but not limited to: performance appraisals, corrective actions, and other personnel issues Organize and provide quarterly or as needed education sessions in conjunction with IP Coding Manager Medical Director of Coding, Documentation, and Education Responsible for concurrently reviewing Inpatient charts for documentation improvement to support accuracy of diagnostic and procedural data and completeness related to primary diagnosis, secondary diagnoses, MCCs, CCs, ROM, SOI, and final DRG Identifies documentation improvement as it relates to ICD-, UHDDS, CMS, and level of specificity and communicates such through regular reports Develop, perform, and report weekly audits to ensure compliance with the CDI program as well as focused education opportunities by CDIS Identify strategies through data gathering and analysis of trends to establish recommendations for the sustained work process changes that facilitate complete and accurate clinical documentation Assists with preparation and presentation of CDI monitoring/trending reports for physician and hospital leadership Participates on patient care teams and committees to advance education of documentation guidelines to support clinical coding and DRG assignment May perform other duties as assigned or requested and job specification can be modified or updated at any time Qualifications Required Education: Associates Degree in Nursing Preferred Education: Bachelors of Science Degree in Nursing (BSN) Required Experience: Minimum of two (2) years as a CDI Specialist. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Knowledge of ICD-10 Inpatient Coding guidelines and DRG assignment Preferred Certifications and Licensures: CDIP or CCDS
