Job SummaryReports To: Director of Facilities and Maintenance Salary: Based on salary schedule for 235 days (8 hours/day). FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Evaluation: The performance of this job will be evaluated per provisions of the Board's policy on the evaluation of personnel. Qualifications:
High school education or GED. Should be dependable, able to get along with people - teachers, principals, and patrons. Must be able to plan and organize his work and the work of his staff and to supervise the efforts of his staff in the proper housekeeping of the plant. Must complete a criminal background check through the Alabama State Department of Education at your own expense. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the board may find appropriate and acceptable. Duties and Responsibilities: Have a thorough knowledge of the principles of heating, ventilation, sanitation, and care of school buildings. Have knowledge of the best tools, materials, and methods to use in various phases of maintenance work. Have knowledge of the correct use of mechanical equipment of school buildings. Have sufficient skill in using proper tools, materials, and methods of procedure for the different kinds of maintenance jobs under various conditions. Possess attitudes that make for harmonious cooperation with students and with the administrative, educational, and other maintenance personnel. Have thorough knowledge of what constitutes good maintenance service and of the importance of the service to both the educational work of the school and the protection of the school property. Be conscious of the importance of energy conservation and strive to conserve energy at all times. Properly remove and/or replace broken door/window glass and windowpanes. Make repairs to locks, hinges, door closers, etc. Repair and adjust faulty window shades. Keep stair handrails tightly in place. Make repairs to students' and teachers' lockers. Replace faulty lamps, fuses, etc. Keep all fire-fighting equipment securely in place. Maintain towel racks, soap dispensers, and tissue racks. Maintain students' and teachers' furniture. Render repairs to heating and plumbing equipment. Make repairs to playground equipment. Repair or replace pencil sharpeners as needed. Lubricate heating and ventilating fixtures. Paint rusting and corroding metal surfaces with inhibitor in small areas. Report large-scale rusting or corrosion to principal. Correct major leak problems. Complete all forms, time sheets, etc., as required by the Maintenance Supervisor. Do electrical wiring according to code. Do any construction work including plumbing, electrical or carpentry. Must be able to do these according to all codes. Performs such other duties as may be assigned.
