Position Description: Performs functions to provide overall leadership and direction to the maintenance team to include Refrigeration, Buildings and Grounds, Wastewater. Including training & development, parts supply, preventive / predictive maintenance systems and downtime tracking with an emphasis on safety and 5S programs. Primary Responsibilities: • Establish a partnership with senior leadership and department to manage a successful and effective maintenance department • Maintains regulatory records and actively participates in the company safety program • Investigates & resolves production equipment issues in a timely manner • Participate in scheduling, interviewing, hiring and training employees in accordance with company policies & applicable laws • Responsible for scheduling and assisting with training • Adheres to annual departmental budget by monitoring costs associated with planned projects, minimizing downtime and asset preservation • Identifies staffing requirements to meet business needs • Supervises maintenance related outside contracted labor, ensuring projects are delivered on time and within budget • Utilizes a computerized maintenance management system to optimize asset utilization through scheduled preventative maintenance. • Reviews production schedule and coordinates with production when equipment is not scheduled for production, directs timely equipment preventive maintenance • Assures proper operation of support assets along with building and grounds • Analyzes mechanical and operational problems of equipment and systems through personal observations, maintenance logs, and operator feedback, and plans for and takes corrective action • Maintains relevant records and ensures USDA, OSHA, and other regulatory agency standards and programs are implemented • Performs other functions as assigned Supervisory/Management Responsibilities: • Maintains staff by orienting and training employees on company rules, safety and job functions • Coaches, counsels, motivates and disciplines • Enforces systems, policies and procedures consistently and fairly • Monitors and processes employee attendance records/timecards and PTO in a timely manner, to include employee scheduling and OT management • Oversees employee participation and adherence to food safety and employee safety programs and policies • Resolves personnel issues in accordance with company guidelines and policies Requirements: • Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Animal Science or related field or equivalent experience • 1-3 years manufacturing experience in a meat, poultry or USDA regulated facility • Basic experience in the application of lean manufacturing processes or similar process • Effective communication and training skills • Familiarity with meat processing equipment • Familiarity with ammonia/refrigeration and wastewater systems • Detail oriented with strong analytical skills • Proficient in Microsoft Office • Usage in ERP and statistical analysis program highly recommended • Understanding of OSHA and general safety guidelines Physical Requirements • Frequently move about, remain in a stationary position, or position self for an extended period of time • Occasionally move items weighing an excess of 50 pounds Competencies: • Communication: The ability to give and gather information and actively manage the communication process by asking questions, conveying complex information in plain language, listening and considering others' views, state own views clearly and concisely, and address conflict in a professional and productive manner. • Analytical Thinking: The ability to tackle a problem by using a logical, systematic sequential approach. • Detail Oriented: Thoroughness in accomplishing a task through concern for all the areas involved no matter how small; monitors and checks work or information; and plans and organizes time and resources efficiently. • Results Orientation: The ability to focus on the desired result of one's own or one's unit's work, setting challenging goals, focusing effort on the goals, and meeting or exceeding them. • Time Management: Able to make the most effective use of one's own time and that of others; gets the job done without procrastinating or delaying; is constantly aware of what is the best use of time.
