DESCRIPTION OF WORKIn this position, you will be tasked with a variety of responsibilities that encompass the planning and execution of construction projects. Your duties will involve creating preliminary designs, estimating the quantities of necessary materials, and selecting the appropriate tools and equipment for each assignment. You will be responsible for measuring, cutting, and assembling materials for both framing and finish carpentry, as well as placing reinforcing materials and managing the pouring and finishing of concrete. Additionally, you will either perform or oversee the measuring, cutting, and nailing of lumber for diverse construction tasks, which may include ordering, pouring, and finishing concrete, as well as constructing railings, stairs, partitions, ramps, and shelves. Your role will also extend to repairing or replacing various fixtures such as lights, plumbing components, valves, switches, and broken glass, as well as addressing clogged plumbing issues, replacing doors, and making interior alterations by erecting or removing partitions. Furthermore, you will be responsible for maintaining outdoor areas by cutting grass with lawn care equipment and removing snow from sidewalks and parking lots using basic snow removal tools. You may also assist garage mechanics with minor repairs as needed, clean and store winter plows and spreaders, and wash trucks during non-bridge activities in winter. In addition to these tasks, you will be expected to provide leadership to helpers engaged in basic assignments, ensuring that all team members are effectively contributing to the work at hand. The role requires the ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds over distances of 20 yards, as well as proficiency in using various tools of the trade, including hammers, screwdrivers, air compressors, saws, levels, trowels, hoes, and rakes. It is crucial to maintain a keen awareness of your work environment to help yourself and others avoid potential risks and hazards; any personal injuries or equipment accidents must be reported immediately to facilitate proper treatment and minimize the risk of further injury. Adhering to attendance and call-off procedures is essential, which includes scheduling non-emergency absences in advance, observing designated start and stop times, taking breaks, and working efficiently both independently and as part of a team.
