Position: Maintenance Manager
Location: Adams, MA, USA
Compensation: approximately $150,000
Summary The Maintenance Manager, under limited supervision, is responsible for leadership, development, and daily oversight of the maintenance department, ensuring proper maintenance of all plant equipment to optimize uptime, including process systems, utilities, and automation.
Responsibilities
- Provide leadership, guidance, and coaching of the maintenance team; enforce safety rules and regulations; maintain effective employee relations; staff all positions; initiate training of personnel at all levels; maintain high morale within the department and with other departments; improve safety posture and awareness.
- Direct the maintenance of all plant facilities, including breakdowns, preventive maintenance, work control, automation, and coordination with outside maintenance contractors and repair shops.
- Establish and enforce maintenance procedures and methods; establish and monitor budgets for plant cost centers and assigned centers.
- Collaborate with Engineering on design, cost estimating, and installation of additions, renewals, changes, and improvements to the plant.
- Coordinate all contractual and vendor arrangements with suppliers, vendors, repair shops, and maintenance contracts.
- Direct the operation of plant energy/utility systems (electricity, water, natural gas, air, steam); pursue efficiency improvements and ensure proper energy distribution in the plant.
- Participate in professional/technical societies; advance EEO objectives; ensure fair and compliant personnel practices; provide technical support to other plants and satellite sites; perform other duties as assigned.
- Act as resource and champion for continuous improvement activities (e.g., Suggestion Program, 5S, Kaizen, TPM, problem solving); drive Operational Excellence initiatives; promote employee involvement and equal opportunity.
- Collaborate with the Plant Manager to develop and implement plant strategies and plans; work with the Global Controller to develop budgets and monitor expenditures; maintain regular communication with staff; coordinate with HR and Safety to improve safety performance; work with Engineering on key designs and capital projects.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field preferred; minimum of ten years' experience in engineering assignments as a Manager in a quality-focused environment with strong employee-oriented programs.
- Strong technical skills; ability to develop plant processes; good business understanding; excellent written and oral communication and presentation skills; strong interpersonal skills; ability to motivate others and promote a positive work atmosphere.
- Ability to work effectively with all levels of employees; self-starter; willing to challenge conventional ideas; flexible, innovative; able to function well in a team.
Working Conditions
- Typically in a controlled office environment with occasional exposure to plant areas; includes potential exposure to outside weather, loud noise, and dust.
- Must wear appropriate safety equipment; PPE provided as required.
- Self-directed with the ability to adapt to changing work assignments; strong integrity, dependability, and the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines; willingness to travel as required.
Safety Training
A new employee will receive safety training from a qualified trainer, including classroom instruction and may include a plant tour. Refresher safety training will be provided as appropriate or required by MSHA regulations. Special attention will be given to candidates residing within an hour of the site.
