Position Title: Mail Services Operator Location: Prince George County Department: Prince George County Police Department Position Summary: The Mail Services Operator is a full performance level police mail courier, involving departmental mail collection, distribution, and delivery service. Work is performed under minimal supervision for job accomplishment. The Mail Services Operator must possess a valid driver's license and pass and MVA records check as they will be driving a county vehicle. Key Responsibilities:
- Mail Service: Follows established mail schedule to collect and deliver inter-departmental mail. Sorts mail by delivery location/unit/person ensuing easier mail delivery. Delivers mail to pre-determined locations after collection. Checks undeliverable mail against roster to ensure accurate delivery. Advises the Director of the Records Management Division of problems with collection and delivery of mail.
- Complies with established mail schedule to ensure timely and accurate mail delivery and collection.
- Sorts mail correct mail buckets to ensure easier delivery.
- Delivers mail promptly to pre-determined locations.
- Checks undeliverable mail against current roster, if receiver cannot be located, notifies the Director of the Records Management Division
- Promptly advises the Director of the Records Management Division of any problems or concerns with any part of the mail delivery process.
- Customer Service/Communications: Professional customer service is imperative with this position. Always be courtesy and respectful.
- Always treats officers and citizens with courtesy and respect.
- Always act in a professional manner when assisting officers as well as citizens.
- Communicates well with officers and citizens.
- Vehicle Operation: Operates vehicle safely and in accordance with all traffic laws and regulations. Ensures vehicle maintenance is performed on schedule and immediately reports vehicle problems to the Director of the Division.
- Maintains a current and valid driver's license.
- Operates vehicle in a safe and defensive manner. Carefully obey all traffic laws.
- Ensures the vehicle maintenance schedule is performed according to required guidelines.
- Report on any vehicle problems

Qualifications:
- Previous experience working within a police department or law enforcement agency environment is strongly preferred.
- Must possess a valid and current driver's license with a clean driving record and demonstrate the ability to operate departmental vehicles safely and defensively.
- Proven ability to follow established mail delivery routes and schedules to ensure timely and accurate distribution and collection.
- Strong attention to detail with demonstrated reliability in sorting, organizing, and delivering mail accurately to designated locations.
- Demonstrated reliability in delivering mail to designated departmental locations in a prompt and consistent manner.
- Effective communication skills with the ability to interact professionally and respectfully with law enforcement personnel, staff, and the public.
Education & Experience: Bachelor's degree (BS/BA) in a related field, or relevant experience.
