Job Summary

The Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologist performs essential MRI procedures to support diagnostic and treatment services. This role prioritizes patient safety and comfort, while also delivering high-quality images for physician evaluation and ensuring adherence to department protocols and safety standards. Responsibilities include operating and maintaining imaging equipment, managing MRI supplies, and providing compassionate patient care throughout the imaging process.

Essential Functions

  • Conducts MRI procedures in alignment with physician orders and departmental protocols to ensure high-quality diagnostic images.
  • Reviews MRI patient questionnaires and histories to identify any potential contraindications, ensuring patient safety during scans.
  • Operates MRI and processing equipment proficiently, following established safety guidelines.
  • Educates and prepares patients for MRI exams, addressing their questions and alleviating concerns to promote understanding and comfort.
  • Ensures compliance with MRI safety standards, including maintaining safety zones and verifying readiness before scans.
  • Documents and correlates clinical histories with exam findings for the radiologist's assessment.
  • Maintains inventory of MRI supplies and equipment, ensuring they are readily available and sterile as needed.
  • Verifies physician orders and patient identification to ensure accuracy and adherence to protocols.
  • Collaborates with radiologists, physicians, and healthcare team members for optimal imaging results.
  • Monitors MRI equipment functionality, promptly reporting any issues to technical personnel.
  • Provides ongoing support and instructions to patients during and after exams to enhance their experience.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.
  • Adheres to all relevant policies and standards.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited Radiologic Technology or MRI program is required.
  • 0-2 years of clinical experience as a registered MRI Technologist is required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Understanding of MRI principles, safety standards, and imaging techniques.
  • Proficient in operating MRI equipment and related software.
  • Strong communication skills for effective interaction with patients and healthcare professionals.
  • Able to assess patient needs and deliver compassionate care.
  • Detail-oriented, with the ability to follow established protocols and procedures.
  • Basic computer skills necessary for documentation and image processing.

Licenses and Certifications

  • ARRT - American Registry of Radiologic Technologists certification is required.
  • ARMRIT - Registered Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologist or certification eligible, to be obtained within 12 months of hire.
  • BCLS - Basic Life Support certification is required.
