At Houston Methodist, the Magnet Program Leader (MPL) position is a pivotal role responsible for providing leadership, planning, and coordination in the Magnet application process, preparing for designation, maintaining related databases, and driving business goals while fostering a professional practice environment. This position leads change initiatives in collaboration with nurse leaders and staff, utilizing the ANCC Magnet framework of excellence to create and implement innovative strategies for staff engagement and performance improvement.
The MPL identifies cutting-edge nursing quality indicators and developmental needs, while promoting a culture of excellence and serving as an ambassador of the Magnet program through diverse communication strategies. Collaboration with Houston Methodist system hospitals is essential for sharing best practices and improving efficiencies.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS - People Essential Functions: Develop and implement communication strategies organization-wide to deliver accurate information regarding program goals, initiatives, and outcomes. Manage outreach concerning Magnet initiatives through newsletters, handbooks, and presentations.
- Support nursing structural empowerment through education, mentorship, consultation, and team building.
- Service Essential Functions: Plan, direct, and execute all Magnet initiatives to meet program goals within documented timeframes, including overseeing applications, documents, and site visits.
- Serve as a knowledge expert in interpreting Magnet standards and implementing shared governance across the organization.
- Provide consultative services to nursing leadership to drive successful outcomes and integrate evidence-based practices.
- Create educational materials, presentations, and reports for Senior Leadership and staff, developing strategies for responding to new program requirements.
- Quality/Safety Essential Functions: Collaborate with stakeholders to manage databases related to nursing quality indicators, and analyze multi-year nurse engagement survey reports.
- Act as a liaison to the ANCC Magnet Recognition Program office to facilitate continuous performance improvement.
- Ensure comprehensive reporting of Magnet Program data to Senior Leadership and stakeholders.
- Finance Essential Functions: Manage the Magnet program within budget and documented timeframes while driving quality improvements.
- Growth/Innovation Essential Functions: Implement change management strategies for successful execution of Magnet initiatives and advance the hospital's public image in the Magnet field through meetings, publications, and presentations.
- Promote professional initiatives that encourage nurses to advance publications and presentations.
- Conduct literature searches and benchmarking inquiries to support evidence-based practices and research initiatives.

EDUCATION - Bachelor's and Master's degree, one of which must be from an accredited school of nursing.
WORK EXPERIENCE - Five years of experience in healthcare/nursing leadership.
- Three years of program management experience in a Magnet healthcare setting preferred.
- Knowledge of Magnet standards and experience in a Magnet organization preferred.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS - REQUIRED - RN - Registered Nurse - Texas State Licensure.
- Magnet - ANCC Recognized Certification.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES - Demonstrates necessary skills and competencies to perform the job safely.
- Effective communication skills for interacting with patients, families, and coworkers.
- Strong relationship-building skills with key stakeholders.
