Machine Operator Pressman- III - Amalgamated Life : Job Details

Primary tasks include Operation and Maintenance of 4 Color Offset Press, Secondary Operation of 2 Color Offset Press and bindery equipment for AliGraphics, which renders offset printing, digital printing and mailing services for the company and commercial customers.

• PRIMARY - Perform all press make-ready functions of 4 Color Offset Press (DI) as a primary operator: automated plate imaging, load waterless inks, load stock, bring and maintain ink balance settings to and at proper levels, utilize Harliquin workflow RIP system of control
• SECONDARY - Perform all press make-ready functions of 2 Color Offset Press as a secondary operator: hang plates, load ink and water fountains, load stock, bring and maintain ink and water balance settings to and at proper levels
• Removal of plates and inks and wash-up press upon completion of orders and otherwise maintain the press in good working order
• Mix Pantone Matching System inks with primary ink colors, as needed
• Utilize densitometer and color matching system to maintain proper ink coverage and balance
• Verify job ticket specifications and assure that all materials needed to produce jobs are available
• Run print jobs upon obtaining quality check approval from group leader or manager
• Maintain consistency of quality throughout press runs
• Run high difficulty spot color print jobs that may require multi-color tight registration, large solids and varnishes
• Troubleshoot problems with jobs and/or press as necessary
• Maintain a detail oriented filing system of completed job by filing plates by associated job numbers
• Report any press malfunctions or problems with jobs which cannot be easily resolved to either group leader or manager
• Cut paper to size prior to print production, as needed
• Assist in bindery finishing operations (i.e. cutting, scoring, folding, booklet making, etc.) as needed
• Assist in UV coating finishing operations, as needed
• Assist in digital printing operations, if needed
• Use thermography tunnel as needed
• Report any shortage or low level of press room supplies to group leader or manager
• Adhere to company policies and procedures
• Performs other production tasks associated with Offset Printing.
• Performs other general tasks, not of a personal nature, as assigned by Manager or President of AliGraphics.

• 3-5 years experience as a 2 Color offset press operator.
• High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
• Offset Printing experience in the commercial printing industry.
• Detail oriented with strong organizational, mathematical and computer skills.
• Ability to multitask in a fast paced environment.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Working knowledge of Harliquin workflow RIP systems
• Working knowledge of medium format (13x19) one-through four-color offset presses
• Working knowledge of PMS ink matching.
• Working knowledge of bindery equipment (cutter, folder, etc.)
• Must possess knowledge of offset printing terminology and standards.
• Must be able to interpret and follow job tickets.
• Must be able to anticipate and address quality control issues.
• Good communication skills.
• Good mechanical skills.
• Must be able to work effectively and efficiently with other production personnel, production manager and manager.
• Manual dexterity to operate medium format (13x19) lithographic offset presses.
• Work with inks, fountain and cleaning solutions.
• Must be able to move lifts of stock up to 13x19 up to 75lbs.
• Must be flexible to work overtime as needed to maintain service levels.
