Position Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled 5-Axis CNC Programmer to join our precision manufacturing team. This role is responsible for programming, optimizing, and supporting the machining of high-end custom aluminum components on Mazak 5-axis machining centers. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in CAM software (Esprit and/or HyperMill), strong knowledge of Mazak machines, and a proven ability to deliver tight-tolerance, flawless surface-finish parts.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, optimize, and maintain CNC programs for 5-axis Mazak machining centers using Esprit and HyperMill.
- Create efficient toolpaths that balance quality, precision, and cycle time.
- Perform setup and prove-out of new programs, ensuring collision-free and safe operation.
- Select appropriate cutting tools, fixtures, and machining strategies for high-end aluminum parts.
- Conduct simulation and verification of toolpaths prior to production.
- Interpret engineering drawings and apply GD&T requirements accurately.
- Collaborate with machinists, engineers, and quality teams to improve processes and resolve issues.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance productivity, reduce waste, and extend tool life.
- Maintain documentation for programs, setups, and best practices.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience programming and running 5-axis CNC machining centers.
- Proficiency in Esprit and/or HyperMill for multi-axis programming.
- Strong hands-on experience with Mazak machines (Mazatrol, SmoothX, SmoothAi, or equivalent controls).
- Deep knowledge of aluminum machining (feeds/speeds, tooling, surface finish, thin-wall structures).
- Expertise in blueprint reading and GD&T.
- Ability to prove out programs safely and optimize cycle times.
- Strong understanding of workholding, fixturing, and datum management for complex parts.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience in aerospace, motorsport, or medical device manufacturing.
- Familiarity with advanced Mazak capabilities (Smooth Technology, custom macros, cycle optimization).
- Knowledge of CAD systems (SolidWorks, CATIA, or similar) for model interrogation.
- Experience with CMM inspection workflows and in-process gauging.
- Lean/Kaizen background with a track record of process improvements.
