- Functions as a key member of the healthcare team using sound nursing judgment.
- Participates in planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care through focused assessments.
- Seeks guidance from an RN or healthcare team when:
- Patient needs exceed LPN scope of practice.
- Care needs surpass LPN's knowledge or ability.
- Patient condition deteriorates or changes significantly.
- Obtains supervision when performing new or unfamiliar procedures.
- Adheres to UPMC policies, LPN Practice Guidelines, and State Practice Act.
- Provides IV therapy within LPN scope of practice.
- Uses Relationship-Based Care to create a healing, patient-centered environment.
- Develops daily care plans and goals in partnership with patients.
- Ensures thorough documentation to promote caregiver communication.
- Aligns daily work with professional, unit, and system goals for patient safety and quality.
- Builds caring relationships with patients, families, and colleagues.
- Actively participates in unit activities and team collaboration.
- Seeks feedback and participates in continuous professional improvement.
- Engages in clinical learning opportunities and quality improvement initiatives.
- Collaborates with healthcare team and patients to achieve optimal outcomes.

- Prior LPN experience preferred
- Prior OR/OB experience preferred
- Demonstrates knowledge and skills to provide age-appropriate care across the lifespan.
- Strong collaboration skills with healthcare team, patients, and families to ensure quality outcomes.
- Builds and maintains positive relationships with all levels of staff and patients.
- Able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, complex environment.
- Requires mobility, manual dexterity, physical stamina (frequent walking, standing, lifting, positioning patients).
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
- Active LPN license in practicing state or compact agreement state.
- IV Therapy Certification (if applicable, within 4 months of hire).
- Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification.
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification (if required by unit).
- Act 33 Child Abuse Clearance.
- Act 34 Criminal Background Check.
- Act 73 FBI Fingerprint Clearance.
- Current licensure either in the state where the facility is located or, if the facility is in a state covered by the multistate Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC) agreement, a multistate license issued by a participating NLC state. Hires and current employees working on an out-of-state NLC license who later change their residency to the state where the facility is also located will have 60 days upon changing their residency to apply for licensure within that state.
