Position Description As a dispatcher, one of your primary responsibilities is to maintain clear and effective communication across all company divisions. You act as the central point of contact between departments, ensuring that operations run smoothly and that all teams are informed of schedules, changes, and any logistical updates. This includes coordinating with operations, and compliance departments to align schedules and expectations, helping to prevent delays and miscommunications that could affect the workflow. Managing the company's fleet of vehicles is another critical component of your role. You are responsible for tracking vehicle availability, maintenance schedules, and ensuring that all fleet vehicles meet regulatory standards. This involves routine inspections and maintaining accurate records to guarantee that each vehicle is safe and road ready. By keeping the fleet in optimal condition, you help minimize downtime and improve overall efficiency. In addition to managing vehicles, you also oversee a team of drivers, particularly those holding a Class A commercial driver's license. This includes assigning routes, monitoring performance, and ensuring compliance with federal and state driving laws. You take an active role in training drivers on the legal and safety requirements for operating large commercial vehicles, emphasizing the importance of hours-of-service rules, logbook accuracy, and proper cargo handling. Scheduling is another vital part of your duties. You create and adjust daily, weekly, and long-term schedules for both drivers and vehicles, balancing needs with available resources. This often requires problem-solving under pressure, especially when dealing with last-minute changes or emergencies. Your ability to plan efficiently and adapt quickly helps ensure that deliveries and pickups are completed on time and in full compliance with regulatory requirements.
