Low Vision Specialist/ Optometrist - Helen Keller National Center for Deaf Blind Youths and Adults : Job Details

HKS serves the New York City/Long Island area from its new headquarters in dynamic downtown Brooklyn and the Helen Keller National Center for Deaf-Blind Youth and Adults of Sands Point, New York, which has a network of regional offices that extends HKS' reach across the United States.

We currently have an exciting part time career opportunity available to join the HKS team as a Low Vision Specialist at our Brooklyn Location.

SUMMARY:

Responsible for the execution of HKSB's Mission, goals, and objectives to provide outpatient care to clients with eye-related disorders and conditions. This entails direct patient care, evaluations, consultations, diagnosis, and treatment. Must demonstrate a high professional standard at all times.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

+ Provide outpatient care to patients with eye-related disorders and conditions.

+ Conduct routine eye examinations.

+ Determine each patient's visual acuity, field of vision, and hand-eye coordination.

+ Provide treatment including low vision rehabilitation.

+ Take detailed medical histories for all patients, including current and past prescription medication.

+ Evaluate eye-related symptoms, such as discharge, redness, and inflammation.

+ Prescribe corrective lenses when required.

+ Make referrals to board-certified ophthalmologists when required for more holistic eye care.

+ Educate patients on proper eye care.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

Required a Doctor of Optometry (O.D) degree.

NYS License/Registered Optometrist to practice

State Certified and Registered to practice Optometry.
