Job Summary

Reporting to the logistics supervisor, the Logistics Associate is part of the Logistics Support Team responsible for packing, handling, transporting, receiving, and issuing materials. High-level customer service is crucial due to interactions with vendors, internal customers, and peer groups such as the Materials & Services team. The Logistics Associate also handles passenger transportation services for Caltech community members and guests. Reports to the Transportation Supervisor.

Responsibilities
  • Transfer, collect, load, and deliver industrial gases and liquids to and from containers to fulfill customer requests.
  • Maintain equipment safety standards, reporting mechanical issues promptly.
  • Conduct and document pre- and post-vehicle inspections and visual tank inspections.
  • Collaborate with the Supervisor for routing and scheduling.
  • Notify the Supervisor of any issues regarding products, routing, scheduling, or safety.
  • Ensure cleanliness and safety of the warehouse.
  • Organize and maintain warehouse and inventory areas for efficient storage and handling.
  • Perform transportation of materials to and from campus locations.
  • Process material requests timely.
  • Load and unload trucks.
  • Move furniture and equipment for relocations and deliveries.
  • Report on work orders and inventory locations accurately.
  • Provide courier services for package pick-up and delivery.
  • Support Shipping & Receiving activities.
  • Operate vehicles and equipment safely, including forklifts and pallet jacks.
  • Ensure vehicles are in good condition and report issues.
  • Maintain vehicle cleanliness.
  • Follow all laws and procedures for operating commercial vehicles.
  • Coordinate with the supervisor to schedule and confirm appointments.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Transportation Duties
  • Drive vehicles to transport community members and guests, following scheduled routes.
  • Assist passengers and with loading/unloading luggage.
  • Manage vehicle climate controls for comfort.
  • Inspect vehicles regularly and report issues.
  • Maintain vehicle cleanliness.
  • Follow all laws for commercial vehicle operation.
  • Report delays or accidents and safety hazards.
  • Coordinate with dispatch for scheduling adjustments.
  • Basic Qualifications
    • At least 5 years of relevant warehousing experience or a combination of 2 years warehousing and 1 year HazMat experience with license endorsement.
    • Ability to lift and maneuver heavy cylinders.
    • Knowledge of safety practices related to warehouse operations.
    • Basic computer skills.
    • Willingness to work overtime, weekends, and holidays.
    • Physical ability to stand, walk, stoop, bend, pull, and push.
    • Pass pre-employment physical and drug testing.
    • Consent to ongoing drug and CDL report reviews.
    • Ability to work in industrial environments.
    • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
    • Valid California Driver's License for at least 4 years and HazMat endorsement or willingness to obtain within 6 months.
    Preferred Qualifications
    • Experience with AiM software or similar systems.
    • Familiarity with handheld scanners.
    • Chauffeur or limousine driving experience.

    Hiring Range

    $22.75 - $25.75 per hour. Salary based on experience, education, and other factors. Caltech offers comprehensive benefits including health insurance, retirement plans, paid time off, tuition reimbursement, and more.
