Primary function of this role is to lead the Electrical Design engineering team that is accountable for design and development of the locomotive electrical locker, wiring harness and schematics, electrical test development, and overall locomotive electrical design . This includes leading and coaching a team of engineers and designers in the design, development, and execution of electrical design projects ensuring the designs meet internal and industry standards, design for manufacturing practices, while also managing budgets, schedules, and resources.

JOB RELATED STATISTICS:

  • Leadership of 5-20 individuals
  • Execution of projects ranging from $50K to $4M in budget and from 1-4 years in cycle time.
  • Management of $3-5M of R&D spend

JOB DUTIES:

  • Leading, mentoring, and managing a team of electrical engineers and designers. This includes setting project goals, assigning tasks, providing guidance, and conducting performance evaluations.
  • Overseeing the design and development of electrical system designs, ensuring they meet project requirements and standards. This may involve developing new designs, modifying existing ones, or selecting appropriate components.
  • Managing all aspects of electrical design projects, including budgeting, scheduling, resource allocation, and risk management.
  • Ensuring that the designs are accurate, complete, and meet required standards for safety, reliability, and performance.
  • Collaborating across the organization to understand their needs and requirements, and ensuring that the designs meet the product requirements
  • Driving design for manufacturing methodology and culture across the team
  • Identifying and resolving technical issues and challenges that may arise during the design process.
  • Staying updated with industry trends and best practices, and implementing improvements to the design process.

BACKGROUND/EXPERIENCE:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in a relevant scientific or engineering field (e.g., chemistry, biology, engineering).
  • Experience: +10 years of proven experience in electrical design; product development, or a related field.
  • Knowledge: In-depth understanding of electrical design, methodologies, and tools
  • Leadership and Communication: Demonstrated capability to lead teams, drive accountability, communicate effectively, and collaborate with other departments.
  • Budget Management: Experience in developing and managing budgets.

Summary Pay Range:

$156,000.00 - $234,000.00

Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location,job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
