Job Description & RequirementsLocal Rate 09:00-17:30 40 hrs 5 days a week Job Summary:The incumbent is responsible for the gross examination and description of surgical specimens submitted to the Pathology Department. The Pathology Assistant is to have a thorough knowledge and great proficiency in the skills of performing gross description and cutting techniques of surgical specimens. They should be capable of performing moderate and highly complex procedures in Surgical Pathology. They should present a pleasing and helpful manner to clients, physicians and all hospital personnel. They should be able to communicate with physicians, pathologists and clinicians in a knowledgeable and professional manner as well as support and contribute to the laboratory objectives by assisting their fellow employees. They are responsible for compliance with relevant local, State and federal guidelines and regulations. The incumbent is to present for work in a timely manner, groomed professionally, and perform their job function in accordance with all Norton Healthcare standards, policies and procedures. Each employee is responsible for upholding the Norton Healthcare Values, namely: respect for every individual, delivery of quality service, constant pursuit of excellence and commitment to integrity.Job Responsibilities:-Performs gross description and dissection of complex surgical specimens with clinical proficiency in assigned principals and practices and in a timely manner to assure workflow.-Ensures adequacy of specimens submitted and communicates with surgery or outside client if there is a problem with a specimen.-Selects and stains appropriate tissue sections for Frozen Sections as well as performing specimen photography when requested.-Assures all patient care work is completed before leaving the work area and communicates additional needs to hold over cases to pathologists or PA.-Assists Technicians as needed in performing all duties to ensure workflow and quality patient care. These duties include computer functions as well as all charging and coding functions.Skills: Required Skills & Experience:-One (1) year of experience in Health Sciences.Preferred Skills & Experience:-N/AEducation: Required Education:-Bachelor's degree in biology or other lab science.Preferred Education:-Master's Degree.OR-Doctorate.Required Certifications & Licensure:-Pathologists Assistant (ASCP) (PATHA).
