• Supervises security staff at a medium security facility.

• Makes sanitation, safety and security inspections of all buildings, building contents, grounds and vehicles in a medium facility.

• Investigates complaints and violations; arbitrates disputes among inmate population and correctional staff.

• Supervises and verifies the accuracy of scheduled formal counts and makes informal counts when required.

• Trains subordinate security staff and ensure that they perform all assigned duties.

• Keeps abreast of current administrative directives pertaining to medium security institutions.

• Maintains control of all security keys, security devices and equipment, vehicle keys, and keys to all building.

• Conducts security inspections and shakedowns for contraband control.

• Prepares and submits written operational and administrative reports.

Must successfully complete eight (8) weeks of SCDC Basic Training upon hire.

State of South Carolina Minimum Requirements:

A high school diploma and relevant experience. A bachelor's degree in a related field may substitute for the required experience.

SCDC Minimum Requirements:

(Or an acceptable equivalency as approved by the Division of State Human Resources.)

• Three (3) years of experience in correctional, security, military, or police work to include one (1) year of supervisory experience.

• A degree in criminal justice or a related degree may substitute for supervisory experience year for year (associate and above = 1 year).

• Must be certified by the SCDC Training Academy and successfully complete the basic supervisory course within six (6) months of entry into the position.
