Job Title: Behavioral Health Consultant
Location: Primary Care Clinic Setting
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM
Pay Range: $31.25 – $33.65 per hour
Reports To: Clinical Director
Position Overview:
The Behavioral Health Consultant (BHC) provides integrated behavioral health services in a primary care environment. This role focuses on consultation with Primary Care Providers (PCPs), short-term treatment planning, and brief, evidence-based interventions that enhance medical and behavioral health outcomes for patients.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with PCPs to develop and implement short-term treatment strategies to improve patient outcomes.
- Conduct weekly individual sessions with clients on assigned caseload.
- Screen all patients using evidence-based tools for substance use and mental health disorders.
- Coordinate with PCPs on positive screens and facilitate referrals to appropriate behavioral health or substance use treatment services.
- Provide motivational interviewing and psychoeducation to patients and their support networks.
- Implement strategies to reduce risks related to substance use and mental health, including prevention-focused education.
- Deliver brief cognitive and problem-solving interventions to address maladaptive thinking and build self-efficacy.
- Assist patients in creating and practicing self-care plans that support disease management, coping, stress tolerance, and relaxation.
- Respond to patient crises and alert appropriate clinic staff for intervention.
- Maintain strict confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA and organizational policies.
Required Qualifications:
- License: Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW)
- Experience: Minimum of 2 years providing behavioral health services
Skills:
- Proficiency in motivational interviewing
- Familiarity with evidence-based screening and brief intervention methods
- Collaborative team approach within a medical setting
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working in a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) or other integrated care setting
