JOB DESCRIPTION

POSITION SUMMARY

The Library Technology Manager is a strategic leader responsible for advancing Braille Institute's mission through innovative, high quality, and accessible audio content offerings that attract and engage new patrons nationwide.

This role oversees the direction, production, and delivery of audiobooks, podcasts, instructional videos, and recorded programming while ensuring technical excellence for live and virtual library events.Working in close collaboration with the Senior. Director of Digital Services, the Manager identifies opportunities to expand the reach and impact of the library's offerings by leveraging emerging audio and video formats and new technologies.

The Manager also leads the identification and direction of voice over talent, drives the strategic vision for studio utilization, and integrates best practices in accessibility to ensure all content serves and empowers the community of blind and low-vision audiences.

This role is pivotal in positioning Braille Institute's Library Services, the largest service we provide, as a leader in accessible audio experiences, advancing literacy, life-long learning, and community connection for those who are blind or visually impaired. Through our strategic plan,Mission Magnified, our goal is to serve more than 200,000 people annually in the next five years.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIESStrategic Leadership and Vision
  • Develop and execute a strategy for expanding Braille Institute's audio and video offerings to attract and engage new patrons, particularly underserved seniors and adults who are blind or visually impaired.
  • Lead the transformation of the library's audio services by exploring and implementing innovative content formats, distribution strategies, and user engagement approaches.
  • Track market and technology trends to ensure offerings remain relevant, competitive, and aligned with Braille Institute's mission.
Audio Content Development and Production
  • Oversee the planning, recording, editing, and distribution of accessible audiobooks, podcasts, instructional videos, and educational content.
  • Ensure all productions exceed quality standards and meet National Library Service and accessibility requirements, delivering a seamless and engaging experience for patrons.
  • Create instructional video content to support digital literacy, technology training, and program promotion.
  • Build an on-demand, evergreen library of media resources that expand Braille Institute's reach and visibility.
Webinar and Event Technical Leadership
  • Direct the technical production of live and virtual library events to ensure high production values and seamless delivery.
  • Design workflows that allow live content to be repurposed for asynchronous access, across audio and video platforms.
  • Troubleshoot issues and implement continuous improvements to enhance patron experience.
Voice and On-Screen Talent Strategy and Direction
  • Build and manage a network of professional and volunteer voice-over talent and on-screen talent, ensuring a consistent, high-quality media brand for Braille Institute.
  • Lead auditions, training, and direction of narrators and on-screen presenters to deliver, clear, engaging, and accessible content delivery.
  • Collaborate with Volunteer Services to recruit and retain a strong talent pool.
Audio Description and Video Accessibility
  • Guide and support the creation of audio-described videos and accessible instructional content.
  • Incorporate user feedback to continually improve accessibility features and patron experience.

Collaboration and Cross-Functional Impact

  • Partner with the Senior Director of Digital Services to align content strategy with patron growth goals and digital engagement initiatives.
  • Work with Programs, Marketing, and Development to amplify offerings and storytelling, increasing awareness and participation in library services.
  • Represent Braille Institute with national partners, industry forums, and National Library Service committees to advance best practices and expand the Institute's leadership in accessible library services.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

Bachelor's degree in Audio/Video Engineering, Media Production, Digital Strategy, Library Science, or a related field; Master's degree preferred.

Experience:

Minimum of 5–7 years of progressive leadership experience in audio and video production, digital content strategy, or library technology services. Proven success in developing and executing strategies to grow audiences and engagement through media offerings.

Technical and Leadership Skills:
  • Advanced proficiency in audio and video editing software (Adobe Audition, Pro Tools).
  • Expertise in webinar platforms (Zoom, Teams) and optimizing live content for asynchronous delivery.
  • Knowledge of accessibility best practices for video content, National Library Service standards, and metadata management.
  • Exceptional project management, organizational, and leadership skills with the ability to inspire and lead teams and volunteers.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills with a user-centered mindset.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Studio and office environment with occasional evening or weekend event support.Must be able to operate recording, video, and audio visual equipment and lift up to 25 lbs. Occasional local travel may be required.

Salary Range: $75,600 - $90,000
