The Lee County Library System is a dynamic, forward-thinking organization seeking enthusiastic and community-focused individuals to join our Library Processing team. This team is based at the shared facility with the East County Regional Library in Lehigh Acres, Floridaa vibrant and growing community known for its diversity and energy. We are currently looking for a Library Associate to support our cataloging efforts. In this role, you will be responsible for cataloging and classifying a variety of materials, including print, audiovisual, and electronic resources. The ideal candidate is a motivated self-starter with strong attention to detail, a collaborative spirit, and a commitment to delivering outstanding service to both internal staff and the community.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Resolves cataloging, classification, and database issues.
  • Works with various technology systems and software applications.
  • Promotes teamwork through effective and positive communication.
  • Assists with the download of bibliographic and item records from vendors and the import of those records into the ILS.
  • Assists with quality control of cataloging and item records creation completed by vendors.
  • Assists with updating or deleting holdings from the OCLC database.
  • Does some advanced copy cataloging.
  • Provides prompt, high-quality, courteous customer service to internal and external customers.
  • Assists with questions and observations which are sent through the Library's Trouble/Help site and answers questions/concerns as appropriate.
  • Assists with database maintenance and clean-up.
  • Participates in system-wide committees and projects.
  • Assists with other special duties as assigned in either the Library Processing Center/Technical Services Department or the Library System.

Education, Experience, Licensing Minimum Requirements:

  • Requires any combination of education and experience equivalent to an Associate's Degree or specialized courses/training equivalent to satisfactory completion of two years of college and two years of customer service or closely related experience.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree preferred from an accredited college or university.
  • One year of related library experience.
  • Experience with cataloging or technical services in libraries.

Supplemental Information:

  • Exceptional communication skills are preferred.
  • Ability to deliver an exemplary customer experience is preferred.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team is preferred.

The County may require employees to make either a temporary or long-term, permanent transfer to another library location to accommodate the organization's business needs.

Work Schedule: This position requires 80 hours bi-weekly, with varying hours and days, including evenings, Saturdays, and some Sundays. EMERGENCY RESPONSE/RECOVERY ACTIVITIES: All County employees are required to work before, during, or after an emergency as needed. This may include temporarily being assigned to work and performing duties outside of the normal scope of their position, location and work schedule to fit the needs of the County and its citizens.
