Library Assistant
Responsible for providing assistance in the overall management of the Library Media Center (LMC), including but not limited to: promotion of literacy, supervision and instruction; oversight of the library collection, equipment, and library management system; providing assistance to students and staff using and working in the LMC; and developing and promoting community relations. Must complete DCSD required training for new library staff

Position Specific Information:
Responsibilities:
- Help plan and participate in special library/literacy events (district-wide events and school specific events)
- Assist and perform necessary record-keeping for all library resources, including a full inventory of all resources no less than every two years
- Assist in the training, scheduling, and management of student assistants/aides and community volunteers in the library
- Perform other library related duties as assigned or requested
- Assist with the supervision, management, instruction, and activities in the Library Media Center
- Attend District trainings pertaining to the library: Destiny, databases and digital resources, collection development, weeding, purchasing, etc.
- Organize and reshelve returned items
- Loan library materials such as books, textbooks, and other resources to students, staff, and other DCSD school patrons
- Manage loans between DCSD school libraries (ILL loans)
- Process returned materials such as books, textbooks, and other resources
- Maintain and repair library materials
- Manage and catalog materials using resource management software (Destiny)
- Follow the DCSD media policy and board policies pertaining to the library
- Assist students and staff when using print and/or DCSD digital resources
- Perform routine tasks such as answering phone calls, maintain a clean and organized library environment, and other necessary tasks
Certifications:
High School or Equivalent (Required)
Skills:
- Ability to use Google Suite and Microsoft Office programs
- Attention to detail
- Basic library management knowledge preferred (Destiny and Dewey Decimal System)
- Collaborative team player
- Effective oral and written communication skills
- Enjoys reading and willing to read
- Maintains a generally positive attitude
- Must feel comfortable reading aloud to students

$17.30 USD - $26.64 USD Hourly
(All salary amounts listed above are based on a full-time (1.0) FTE. If applicable, part-time salaries will be prorated according to the assigned FTE.)
