DescriptionOverview:Somekh and Associates is a growing elder law/estate planning law firm in Garden City as of August 1, 2025. Our friendly office is seeking two (2) organized, self-directed, legal assistants with a desire to learn about the field of Elder Law and Estate Planning.Flexible hours (9 am-5 pm/Monday-Friday). Salary commensurate with experience. Honest and accurate reporting of hours is required.This Job will begin as soon as possible. Please only apply if you know you will be able to begin working within 2 weeks of being hired.ResponsibilitiesDUTIES (including but not limited to the following): SECRETARIAL/ ADMINISTRATIVE:•Ordering office supplies•Scanning in documents and titling them properly•Printing Stamps and labels for mailings•Calendaring Fair Hearing/ Court NoticesESTATE PLANNING: •Drafting Power of Attorneys, Health Care Proxies, Trusts, Pour-over Wills, Certification of Trusts, and other similar documents using software•Drafting Wills•Drafting Deeds and ordering ACRIS/ transfer tax documents•Being available to witness/notarizeESTATE ADMINISTRATION: •Preparing Probate/Administration/ Small Estate petitions, Waivers, Citations, Notices, and other necessary documents•Obtaining an EIN•E-filing petitions using NYSCEFMEDICAID APPLICATIONS: Extensive contact with the client is neededIncluding but not limited to:•Helping clients gather documents needed•Obtaining medical records from the client's doctors•Ensuring the client signs all the necessary documents•Reviewing bank statements for transfers•Preparing Pooled Trust applications•E-filing Medicaid applicationsQualificationsEducation: •Bachelor's degree/associate's degree/ certificate in paralegal studies or comparable paralegal experience.Experience:•Must have at least 1-3 years of experience working in a law firm setting. Preference will be given to those with prior relevant law firm experience in elder law, estate planning, and estate administration.•The ideal candidate will be providing services to 2 attorneys.Requirements:•Must be sharp, independent, self-directed, and quick to learn•Computer Savvy•Proficient in MS, Adobe, Outlook, and WordPreferences Experience with the following programs: •Clio Manage and Clio Grow•ElderCounsel•HotDocs•NYSCEF E-filing•MEDS•ACRIS
