The Children's Ministry Pastor/Ministry Leader is responsible for leading and overseeing the Children's Ministry at the Lee's Summit Campus. This role collaborates with staff, volunteers, parents and children to develop spiritual growth by teaching God's Word at age-appropriate levels. The Pastor/Ministry Leader equips children to become disciples of Jesus Christ who know they are loved, seen and belong. This position also provides leadership and guidance for all weekend programming at the Lee's Summit Campus, with a strong emphasis on creating environments where children are actively formed into lifelong disciples of Jesus.

Personal Responsibilities

  • Be committed to grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ (2 Peter 3:18; 1 Peter 2:2) by assembling for instruction in God's Word and engaging in the personal study of God's Word.
  • Responsibly use the resources at your disposal to foster the mission and vision of Abundant Life (1 Peter 5:1-4).
  • Participate in an Abundant Life group (Acts 2:41-42) as well as the discipleship ministry (Matthew 28:18-20).
  • Live in a way that glorifies God and aligns with the staff core values (1 Timothy 3:1-7, Titus 1:5-9).
  • Be committed to giving to the needs of the saints (2 Corinthians 8:1-7 & 9:12).
  • Become a member of Abundant Life.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership, supervision, and development for the Lee's Summit Campus Children's Ministry, serving children from birth through 5th grade.
  • Invest in and develop Lee's Summit staff that reports to you.
  • Conduct weekly meetings with the children's ministry staff at Lee's Summit.
  • Oversee the overall workflow and daily operations of Children's Ministry programming.
  • Collaborate with the Campus Pastor to align Children's Ministry with the mission and ministries of the church.
  • Equip, inspire, recruit, train, and deploy volunteers across all areas of Children's Ministry.
  • Partner with Central Services to establish and implement best practices for Children's Ministry at the Lee's Summit Campus.
  • Work with Campus Pastor in planning and preparing the yearly ministry calendar and strategic Children's Ministry initiatives.
  • Offer leadership for all mile marker classes and celebrations within the ministry.
  • Ensure that all applicable rooms are appropriately equipped and presentable for ministry activities.
  • Maintain clear communication with parents, providing updates and addressing individual concerns as needed.
  • Work with Children's Ministry team and Campus Pastor to set the direction and goals of the ministry.
  • Steward the Campus Children's Ministry budget and assist in annual planning with the Campus Pastor.
  • Lead and oversee weekend programming each Sunday morning, in addition to other children's events throughout the church calendar.
  • Foster a welcoming, nurturing environment where staff and volunteers are attentive to children's needs, can pray with them, and disciple them to become more like Jesus.
  • Coordinate communication and care between staff, volunteers, and families; refer families to pastoral care when appropriate.
  • Enforce and maintain all child safety policies and procedures to ensure a secure trustworthy environment for all children participating in ministry activities.
  • Strategically schedule and manage volunteer teams for weekend programming.
  • Plan and lead special events such as Kid's Week (VBS) and other campus-specific programs as needed.
  • Cultivate a thorough understanding of the Children's Ministry to offer effective leadership and spiritual guidance.
  • Manage and purchase ministry-related supplies and resources as needed.
  • Practice discretion and confidentiality in the dissemination of information.
  • Participate in Central Services Children's Ministry meetings to help shape the direction of the ministry.
  • Fulfill additional duties as assigned in alignment with the mission of making disciples and serving families well.

Skills and Qualifications

Success in this role will be achieved by a spiritually mature, highly motivated, and mission-driven leader who is passionate about making disciples of Jesus Christ through Children's Ministry. This role requires someone who is organized, relational, and able to lead others with clarity, humility, and purpose.

  • A deep personal commitment to Jesus Christ and a calling to disciple children and families through biblical teaching and relational ministry.
  • Proven ability to lead and inspire volunteers in creating environments that foster spiritual growth and lifelong faith in Jesus.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to connect effectively with children, parents, volunteers and staff.
  • Highly organized.
  • Collaborative team player with the capacity to work closely with others.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and other administrative tools.

Education/Experience

  • A minimum of 2 years' experience in a leadership role is required.
  • 2 years' experience in Children's Ministry is preferred.
