Job Description :
Purpose of Position To perform secretarial/clerical duties for administrative, clinical and medical staff and serves as a facilitator/resource person for the Inpatient Psychiatric Unit. Description • Ensures effective daily department operations and participates in the staffing process to ensure adequate staffing in inpatient area. • Orients and trains new Unit Secretaries; retrains current Unit Secretaries, as needed. • Maintains patient records including the coordination of inpatient chart audits to ensure documentation requirements meet compliance and are completed on day of discharge. • Performs a variety of communication functions relating to phone, mail, visitors, hospital personnel, etc. including copying, filing and mailing a variety of patient related materials. • Transcribe physician orders, complete necessary forms, requisitions and communications necessary to implement orders. • Maintains adequate quantity of forms, supplies, maintain unit bulletin boards, manuals, staff mailboxes and other communication sources. • Attend in-service educational programs as assigned to learn new forms, procedures, developmental skills, etc. • Performs secretarial and other related duties to assist administrative, clinical and medical staff. Works collaboratively with Nurse Manager, M.D.s and Nurse in Charge. • Works cooperatively with fellow workers and communicates politely with department employees, patients, visitors and others both in person and via the telephone. • Perform billing operations related to automated billing system utilizing the Cape Cod Hospital information system. • Obtains inpatient patient demographics to verify insurance benefits and assists the Utilization Review Coordinator with correspondence needs for insurance authorizations/appeals. • Perform other work-related duties as requested or directed. Qualifications • Ability to read, write and communicate in English. • Experience with Microsoft Office and/or other applicable software programs required. • Ability to type 30 words per minute. • Successful completion of medical terminology course with a Grade C or better, or successfully pass medical terminology challenge exam with 80% or better. • Minimum 3 years experience in a medical office required or with similar experience at Cape Cod Hospital or the equivalent (e.g., Unit Clerk) as determined by management. • Crisis Prevention Intervention Training within 1 month of new position. • BLS Certification within 3 month of new position and must maintain.
