Must have
- Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Network Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent experience.
- 58+ years of professional experience in software engineering or systems engineering roles.
- Practical experience supporting Tier 2 or Tier 3 service provider environments is highly desirable.
- Proficient in at least one major programming language (Python, Java, or Go).
- Advanced Unix/Linux system administration skills (RedHat/CentOS/Alma preferred).
- Strong understanding of TCP/IP, SNMP, syslog, DHCP, DNS, and other service provider protocols.
- Familiarity with DOCSIS protocols, including modem provisioning and event diagnostics.
- Experience with monitoring and observability tools (e.g., Grafana, Prometheus, Splunk) is a plus.
- Knowledge of Kafka or other event streaming tools is beneficial.
- Strong problem-solving and debugging capabilities across software and network layers.
- Excellent communication and documentation abilities.
- Capability to mentor junior developers and contribute to a collaborative engineering culture.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain backend services and automation pipelines to enhance network operations and service infrastructure.
- Write scalable, testable, and maintainable code using Python, Go, or Java.
- Develop APIs and tools that integrate with infrastructure components (e.g., DHCP, DNS, RADIUS, CMTSs).
- Serve as a subject matter expert in Linux system administration, focusing on service configuration, process monitoring, and hardening.
- Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines and automate infrastructure using Git, Ansible, and related tools.
- Ensure system-level observability through log ingestion (e.g., syslog), metrics (e.g., Prometheus/Grafana), and event triggers.
- Analyze and automate responses to events arising from DOCSIS plant infrastructure, cable modems, and CMTS systems.
- Assist in parsing and interpreting SNMP traps, syslogs, and DOCSIS TLVs to enhance proactive network monitoring.
- Collaborate with IP Engineering and NOC to improve mean time to repair (MTTR) and streamline incident responses.
- Work alongside platform architects and engineering leads to define infrastructure strategy and reference architectures.
- Support and prototype emerging technologies such as:
- Kafka for streaming telemetry and event processing.
- Kubernetes for container orchestration and deployment.
- Other distributed technologies (e.g., Flink, Redis, PostgreSQL, Vault).
- Participate in architectural evaluations, tool comparisons, and proof-of-concept implementations.
