**Roles & Responsibilities** :

The Scientific Computing and Data group at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai partners with scientists to accelerate scientific discovery. To achieve these aims, we provide a cutting-edge high-performance computing and data ecosystem along with MD/PhD-level support for researchers and clinicians. The group is composed of a high-performance computing team, the research clinical data warehouse team and a research data services team.

The Lead Healthcare Data Warehouse Architect designs and oversees the implementation and testing of a scalable, high-availability, high-performance data warehouse. The Mount Sinai Data Warehouse (MSDW) contains electronic health record data for over 11 million patients in the Mount Sinai Health System. The 30 terabyte data warehouse is situated in a high-performance computing cluster (>25,000 cores, and 30 petabytes usage storage) and data commons, with the overarching goal of accelerating translational research and improving clinical care. This position enables the maximal sharing of data within Sinai and beyond with NIH-funded national research projects such as N3C and INSIGHT. The MSDW is in the early stages of being linked to images, genomic, EKGs and other research data sets. The incumbent leverages extensive experience and understanding of data warehouse technologies, tools and best practices. This position reports to the Director of Research Data Warehouse in the Scientific Computing group. Specific responsibilities are listed below.

* Designs and oversees the implementation of Mount Sinais research-oriented clinical data warehouse for researchers and clinicians.

* Oversees the ongoing operations, maintenance and upgrades for data pipelines and ETL jobs for the integration of data from the Epic Caboodle into an Observational Medical Outcomes Partnership (OMOP) common data model database.

* Ensures that MSDW data is provided to on-premise self-service query tools such as Leaf, ATLAS, TriNetX, MS Power BI, and to national research projects such as INSIGHT and N3C.

* Maintains the confidentiality, privacy, and integrity of all healthcare data. Comply with all applicable laws, policies, and procedures, including those of the Institutional Review Board (IRB), Compliance, HIPAA and New York State laws, and IT Security.

* Develops the standards, automated procedures and documentation for database and ETL design, including management, monitoring, upgrades, quality control and quality assurance and maintenance. Conduct peer code reviews. Creates documentation.

* Establishes the strategy for optimized database performance stored procedures, ETL jobs, and related scripts in coordination with the DBA.

* Serves as technical mentor to team members. Acts as a technical project leader. Work effectively with others Mount Sinai and beyond.

* Performs related duties as assigned or requested.

***Requirements:***

* Bachelor degree in Computer Science or a related discipline

* Eight years minimum experience in the design and administration of relational databases and ETL processes in diverse technological environments.

* Knowledge and experience of ETL development best practices: explicit source-to-target mappings; pattern-based and parameter-driven development; and rigorous version control. Strong knowledge of relational and dimensional data modeling principles and best practices. Experience with Microsoft SSIS, Visual Studio.

* Knowledge of database administration experience: database design and configuration; DDL and DML performance tuning using indexes, partitioning, materialized views, and other methods for improving query performance.

* Strong SQL development skills: stored procedures, functions, triggers, sequences, queries with advanced SQL. Microsoft T-SQL experience is required; hands-on experience with Oracle PL/SQL and/or PostgreSQL PL/pgSQL is a strong plus.Experience working with healthcare data (electronic health records, medical and pharmacy claims, healthcare cost accounting systems). Experience with Epic Systems Corporations Clarity and Caboodle reporting databases is strongly preferred.

* Excellent critical thinking, problem-solving, multi-tasking, and collaboration skills.

* Strong communication skills (verbal and written) to effectively interact with researchers, clinicians, hospital administrators, and other IT personnel.

* Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS), Power BI, and/or Tableau is a plus.
