Assigned duties involve the operation of various power tools and light-to-medium related equipment. Incumbents are responsible for exercising the day-to-day formal and/or functional supervision over assigned crewmembers and, on occasion, additional supervisory responsibilities in the absence of the assigned Supervisor. Work, which is performed with some independence within established policies, procedures and techniques, is subject to general or direct supervision as the work situation warrants. Consults and advises the Maintenance Supervisor on assigned duties and pending completion.Application Instructions And Selection ProcessApplications must be completed and submitted online. When a position is to be filled, the essential functions will be noted in the announcement of position availability. Management reserves the right to add, modify, change or rescind work assignments as needed.Assigns, coordinates, and schedules the daily work of the Facilities Maintenance subordinate staff; and provides guidance and technical support including training. Assists subordinates in performing complex or technical tasks. Supervises and participates in moving furniture and equipment.Maintains and monitors contracts for the following: HVAC, monitoring systems, elevators, and janitorial work. Coordinates contractor's work and monitors their performance.Makes routine and emergency purchases as authorized and required; and provides assistance in the preparation of the annual facilities section budget.Obtains contract proposals for a variety of projects including carpeting, roof repairs, painting, and other contract services.Performs a variety of maintenance and repair tasks in the custodial, carpentry, electrical, HVAC and plumbing trades.Completes required reports, memos and correspondence. Maintains communication with subordinates, supervisors, contract personnel and other departments as needed.Inspects building facilities to identify building maintenance needs.Works with and tracks work orders within the Costa Maintenance Worker Order System.Handles service calls and requests.Responds to emergency requests during and after working hours.Marginal FunctionsPerforms other related work as required.May act as a Maintenance Supervisor in the absence of the assigned supervisor.Qualification GuidelinesEducation, Training And/Or ExperienceA typical way to obtain the requisite knowledge and abilities to perform the duties and responsibilities of this classification is as follows:Graduation from high school or the equivalent. Additional technical coursework related to the area of assignment is desirable.Three (3) years of progressively responsible building maintenance/construction experience involving a range of skills, activities and equipment.An equivalent combination of education and relevant experience that provides the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform essential functions may also be considered.License And/Or CertificatePossession of, or the ability to obtain a valid California Class C Driver's License, or higher, before the date of appointment is required.
