Base pay range

$100,000.00/yr - $115,000.00/yr

We are seeking a Lead Digital Editorial Designer to join our team. This role will be responsible for developing and implementing visual look and feel for editorial content for digital and multimedia platforms, with an aim of increasing the acquisition, engagement, and retention of ASME members. The incumbent will be responsible for the complete layout and artwork for each digital issue of Mechanical Engineering and other products in the ASME Media portfolio, and other assets as assigned (supplements, media kit, advertisements, etc.).

Principal responsibilities include:
  • Work with the Director, Design and Brand Experience and Editor in chief of Mechanical Engineering to plan projects, individual pages, and artwork needed to meet deliverables, such as magazine issues or other publications, media kits, sponsored content pieces, promotional items, etc.
  • Work with editorial staff or other stakeholders on the sourcing of images for digital stories or other content; convert images as needed to usable formats and touch up images that are not publication quality.
  • Support Media sales programs that will include but not limited to media kits, custom content design.
  • Continually review and optimize digital production workflows to ensure maximum efficiency using the latest capabilities of the digital platforms.
  • For publications as well as individual projects, prepare design files using appropriate software (i.e., InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, After Effects, Foleon, Infogram, etc.).
  • Oversee the publishing workflow and proofing of digital assets, making corrections to the design files as needed.
  • Lead the selection of freelance talent and external vendors, and commission and supervise as needed.
  • Demonstrate initiative and critical thinking by proactively identifying challenges and opportunities and developing thoughtful solutions.
  • Partner with members of Customer Experience, other Marketing departments, and other parts of ASME as needed, to develop images and other digital graphics for online publications and other projects.
  • This role requires a bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience and a minimum of 5 years' experience in graphic design. Knowledge of design principles in branding, multiple media, including digital, social, and interactive media is required.

    Additionally, a proven track record of demonstrating knowledge, excellence, and practical experience in the following skills and competencies is required:

    • Communication – Oral and written presentation, including attention to detail
    • Relationship Management – Ability to work well with teams in diverse, complex, and changing environments
    • Problem Solving – Ability to identify key issues, gather data to investigate those issues, and develop actionable recommendations
    • Project Management – A detailed approach and ability to work independently and remain organized in order to meet commitments and balance competing priorities
    • Technical:
      • Knowledge of digital design and editorial publishing platforms and of the leading digital publishing applications is required.
      • A robust knowledge of editorial digital design, production, and image retouching required.

    This role is eligible for a remote work arrangement.

    Annual base salary may vary based on geographic location. The New York metro salary range for this position is estimated to be between $100,000 – $115,000 per year.
