We are seeking a LANA Lymphedema Therapist (PT or OT) to join our Wound & Edema Center team. The LANA Lymphedema Therapist assesses and develops an appropriate plan of care for edema patients following initial assessment by one of the Wound Clinic physicians. They provide manual lymph drainage (MLD) and applies other lymphedema therapy techniques based on best practice guidelines. They collaborate with Center providers, Wound Clinic staff and interdisciplinary team members to provide optimal care to mutual patients. Responsibilities of this position include:

  • Evaluates and assesses patient's condition using approved age and diagnosis-specific protocols. Determines and documents plan of care. Receives signed approval from referring Center Panel Physician prior to initial treatment and when necessary, during course of therapy
  • Reviews care plan with patient and family (as appropriate), including functional and achievable treatment goals. Reviews comfort measures as appropriate for time spent away from therapy. Documents according to professional standards and Hospital policy
  • Performs treatment techniques in a safe and skillful manner. Adjusts procedures and treatments to accommodate patient's capabilities and needs. Documents all interventions within 24 hours according to professional standards and Hospital policy. According to Hospital policy, inputs all evaluation and treatment statistics daily and accurately to initiate patient charges; enters charges for DME products daily and accurately. Continually modifies goals and treatment plans based on ongoing assessment of patient condition
  • Chooses, measures, fits and instructs in DME and other related patient devices accurately. Documents in a timely & appropriate manner according to professional standards and Hospital policy
  • Provides patient and family education clearly, concisely and professionally at the individual's level of understanding
  • Is skilled in the use and capabilities of all therapy equipment and devices, including pinch meter, dynamometer, and goniometer. Seeks additional resources (personnel, equipment, etc.) when needed
  • Informs referring physician of patient's progress throughout treatment, and of patient's discharge upon completion of therapy program
  • Gives guidance and direction to other personnel including CNA/Aide, and Administrative Staff. Provides Administrative Staff with daily statistics to reconcile monthly production reports. As necessary can schedule appointments, check-in and check-out patients per Hospital policy. Works with students from approved programs
  • Promotes the Lymphedema program through presentations to community groups, educational programs and professional organizations
  • Performs and documents evaluations of patients of all ages who present with edema and lymphedema-related diagnoses. Develops treatment plans with functional goals, time frames, and rehabilitation potential based on evaluation in accordance with professional standards of care. Documents treatment notes, exercise regime, dispensed garments, and discharge summaries in a timely manner according to department policy. Responsible for completion of proper authorizations and accurate billing procedures to ensure third party payment
Requirements of this position include:
  • Bachelors required
  • One - two year OT or PT experience preferred
  • Able to communicate directions to all department personnel; able to describe patient condition to physicians, staff, team members and to patient family members and offer comfort; able to recognize and respond to non-verbal cues and communication; able to explain and demonstrate use of equipment and expected response.
  • Valid, current Wisconsin driver's license upon hire; license to practice OT or PT in Wisconsin upon hire; current certification through LANA, NBCOT and BLS certification within department guidelines.
