Job Description Job Description JOB DESCRIPTION FOR LAB TECHNICIAN I Responsibilities: Works under the supervision of Clinical Laboratory Scientists (CLS). Preforms procedures such as loading samples and assisting in the operation of laboratory instruments. Prepares specimen for testing and/or send outs, including batching, creating wordlists/worksheet, pipetting, separating (serum/plasma/fluids) samples, centrifuging, aliquoting and preparing dilutions with the use of a calibrated pre-set pipettor. Maintains laboratory supplies and performs routine housekeeping duties. Takes inventory, orders, receives, unpacks, distributes, and stocks supplies as needed. Loads/unloads samples onto instruments, assists in the operation and monitoring of automated or semiautomated instruments, and notifies a CLS for any instrument alerts. Assists in the performance of quality control procedures and may transcribe QC results that have been previously recorded automatically by a testing instrument. Follows all departmental procedures and practices related to laboratory safety, data documentation, and good laboratory hygiene practices. Reads and transcribes digital temperature, humidity, weights, etc. Must be able to prioritize work and handle multiple projects simultaneously. May assist with training, coaching, and the development of coworkers and students. Performs other duties as assigned. Must take all assigned Human Resources trainings and classes. Responsible for attending all department and staff meetings. Requirements: High School Diploma or above or equivalent work experience in a laboratory setting. Must be able to work with all chemicals, building material, and sample specimens. Must be able to differentiate colors accurately by sight. Must have reliable transportation to and from work. Must be able to lift 25lbs. Skills: Excellent presentation, interpersonal and communication skills with demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with all levels of management, both internally and externally. Ability to gather and review resources and select and synthesize data for reports and other written materials. High level of accuracy is required, with special attention to details. Education: High School and B.S. Monday - Friday 6:00 p.m. - 2:00 a.m.
