This role encompasses assignments on a rotational basis, including both in-house and external off-site coverage such as Skilled Nursing Facilities and Pre-Admission Testing. The ideal candidate will conduct venipuncture and other specimen collection procedures, ensuring adherence to patient identification protocols while providing excellent service to patients and customers. Key Responsibilities: - Perform phlebotomy and specimen collection procedures, which include venipuncture (venous and capillary), 24-hour urine collections, random urine collections, H. pylori breath tests, and glucose tolerance testing.- Ensure compliance with patient fasting and non-fasting statuses pertinent to test viability.- Select appropriate venipuncture equipment based on patient age and specific requirements, assessing suitable venipuncture sites.- Execute data entry for test orders in the Electronic Health Record (EHR), ensuring diagnosis codes meet medical necessity requirements, and obtaining necessary consent forms and prior authorizations as needed.- Organize and prioritize workload effectively, managing both STAT and routine patient testing and timed draws according to established guidelines.- Serve as the outpatient department receptionist as needed, ensuring patients are attended to in a timely manner, with priority given to fasting patients.- Coordinate clerical and phlebotomy functions to ensure efficient service while adhering to designated turnaround and wait time guidelines.- Monitor patients during procedures to identify any reactions, promptly notifying medical staff if complications occur.- Implement downtime procedures for Health Information Systems (HIS) or Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) when necessary and assist with system recovery during such times. Schedule: - Night Rotational schedule, 40 hours per week. Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility. Required Skills & Experience: - No specific experience required; however, preferred candidates have at least three months of phlebotomy experience in an acute care setting.- Familiarity with patient registration and lab test order entry processes.- Understanding of laboratory specimen processing protocols. Education: - Required: High School diploma or equivalent.- Preferred: Completion of a Phlebotomy Training Program or alternative Medical Office Assistant training.
