Job Summary:

The Department of Clinical Laboratories at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is seeking a full-time Laboratory Operations Coordinator / Associate Technical Director. The successful candidate will:

  • Manage day-to-day activities within the laboratory, including ensuring operation of essential equipment, making sure adequate supplies are available for testing procedures, and reviewing budget.
  • Provide administrative support and back up to lab quality system manager in maintaining compliance with all regulatory agency standards, including those for New York State, CLIA, CAP, TJC, CMS, etc.
  • Develop laboratory guidelines; maintain procedures manuals; and evaluate new materials and equipment.
  • Manage and control departmental expenses while ensuring quality services in conjunction with the laboratory technical supervisors and support staff.
  • Be responsible for departmental statistics, and coordinate collection and preparation as required.
  • Prepare reports, charts, and graphs associated with performance improvement activities.
  • Review goals, analyze processes necessary to achieve those goals, and develop techniques and systems required to meet those goals.
  • Manage lab safety programs to ensure compliance with all applicable regulations.
  • Assist in laboratory space and facilities planning; make recommendations for changes; maintain inventory of laboratory furniture, equipment, and supplies.
  • Act as liaison between lab, other services, and affiliates to ensure compliance with all applicable regulations.
  • Proven ability to write and edit policies and procedures.
  • Manage personnel, provide training, mentorship, and performance feedback.
  • Develop and present programs for continuing education.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned or as business needs warrant.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Medical Technology, Chemistry, Biology or a closely related field.
  • New York State Clinical Laboratory Technologist Licensure.
  • 5+ years of experience as a Laboratory Technologist.
  • 2+ years of supervisory experience involving supervision of professional laboratory personnel.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree.
  • ASCP certification.

Salary Range: Commensurate with experience and qualifications
