Responsibilities include processing, embedding, microtomy, routine and special stains, and immunohistochemistry. Quality control on completed slides is required. The candidate must identify problems that may affect diagnosis and results. Recording observations from tests is necessary. Documentation of maintenance of instruments and equipment used in the lab must be completed. Compliance with established laboratory policies and procedures is essential. Occasional weekend requirements and on-call coverage on weekends once every two months may be expected. Candidates should be aware that during hurricane season, all employees may be assigned to emergency response teams. Travelers should ensure their availability during the hurricane season, which runs from June through November. Prior experience with immunohistochemistry and special stains is preferred. A Bachelor's degree in histotechnology, biology, or a related scientific discipline is a plus.
