Position: Lab Support Technician I, Mercy Southeast

Department: Offsite, Jackson Lab

Shift: Part-Time (32Hrs. Week), Days, 700-1530 or 700-1630, depending on the day.

Overview:

The Lab Support Technician (LST I) is part of the provider care team acting in a support capacity for reports, data and scheduling functions of the laboratory. This position is responsible for providing accurate, timely and effective provision of laboratory support. The LST I will be required to exhibit excellent customer service skills in line with the Mercy Signature Service with all internal and external customer interactions. The LST I is responsible as required for the skillful acquisition of laboratory specimens for testing, utilizing safe, accurate, effective, professional methodologies while observing HIPAA confidentiality requirements and lab policies. The LST I will be responsible for all processing, transport and referral of all types of laboratory specimens and reports as required. In order for the co-worker to achieve the competencies of the LST I position they must be observed by laboratory management or designee and complete all departmental checklists for the LST I position. Job Description: Financial PerformanceDemonstrates stewardship of resources in regards to inventory, time management, and meeting productivity standardsOperational EffectivenessDemonstrates effective computer skills for both electronic communication and data managementCreates and uses work aid documents as neededOrganizes, prioritizes and completes work to meet defined turnaround time and expectationsAssesses issues that arise and communicates to appropriate stakeholders for resolution, as requiredParticipates in effective inventory control as neededCommunicates professionally and effectively with co workers health care professionals, vendors and the public using Mercy signature serviceParticipates in training and education of others as requestedAttends department, laboratory, and Mercy system meetings as requiredPerforms acquisition, labeling, transfer, and referral of all required types of specimens for laboratory testing: utilizing accurate, effective, professional, and confidential accepted methodologies as requiredAssists with processing of specimens and reports in laboratory specialty areas as requiredResolves billing issues as requiredPerforms other duties as requiredWorkplace ExcellenceComplies with departmental operational policies to meet staffing plan and department needsDisplays a spirit of cooperation and concern for all patients, fellow staff members, and providersDemonstrates initiative to assist the laboratory and support areas where neededParticipates in continuing education and staff developmental activitiesQualityDemonstrates and documents competency in areas of assigned responsibility according to CMS guidelinesReceives and distributes laboratory reports as required under the direction of lab managementCommunicates and documents essential information according to the established policies and proceduresIdentifies, reports, and engages in opportunities for process improvementComplies with all safety regulations and requirements (i.e. chemical hygiene plan, exposure control plan, blood borne pathogens)Continuing EducationAccumulates a minimum of 6 CEU annuallyCertificate of attendance or sign in sheet requiredJob related or approved by laboratory managementCompletes mandatory courses on timeOtherPerforms other work duties as assigned

Qualifications:

Education: High school diploma, G.E.D, or enrolled in a healthcare career program through their high school curriculum.

Other: Successful completion of probationary periodNo active disciplinary actions or active performance improvement plansPreferred Education: College level Chemistry, Biology or other Science coursesPreferred Experience: Previous experience in a clinical laboratory
