Job Title: Lab Animal Technician I
Overview
We are seeking a Lab Animal Technician I to support animal research operations in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. This role involves animal care, facility maintenance, and collaboration with a dynamic team to ensure the well-being of laboratory animals and the integrity of research programs.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform daily animal care, enrichment, handling, and observations, reporting any abnormalities.
- Maintain cleanliness of facilities and equipment, including cage sanitization and preparation.
- Operate and maintain animal facility equipment (e.g., cage/rack washers, monitoring systems).
- Ensure accurate and timely documentation of animal care and facility maintenance activities.
- Support training of new team members and assist in quality reviews of records.
- Contribute to identifying new technologies and process improvements within animal resources.
- Work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment, ensuring compliance with SOPs, safety standards, and regulatory requirements.
Skills & Requirements
- High school diploma (or equivalent) and 2+ years of experience in an animal research facility or veterinary practice required. Associate's or Bachelor's degree in animal science or related field preferred.
- AALAS certification highly desirable.
- Strong attention to detail, communication, and teamwork skills.
- Must be comfortable with physical work (lifting up to 50 lbs, standing for long periods, handling animals).
- Ability to work weekends and holidays as scheduled.
- No known allergies to animals.
- Basic computer skills (Word, Excel, Outlook) preferred.
Schedule & Location
- Full-time, 40 hours per week (Monday–Friday, with scheduled weekends/holidays).
- Onsite in Ridgefield, CT.
