Job DescriptionSalary: $20.64/hourJuvenile Probation Officer I Court/Intake Probation OfficerDauphin County Probation Services - Juvenile Division is currently accepting applications for the full-time position of Probation Officer I. A Court/Intake Probation Officer receives new cases from their supervisor at which time it is their responsibility to schedule and conduct an Intake Conference with the juvenile, parents, service providers and attorneys in order to collect social background information, to make determinations if evaluations are necessary, get releases signed for other agencies involved with the family and the school the juvenile is attending. All information collected is reviewed with the unit supervisor in order to make appropriate recommendations to the court to include referrals to community-based programs or residential placements. This is a Union position. An employee in this position performs but is not limited to carrying out the following essential functions: schedules and conducts intake interviews with juvenile, parents and attorneys, and complete all related paperwork. Fills out the appropriate forms such as Waiver of Rights, Intake Summary form, Release of Confidential Information, Safety Sheet, Consent to Search, TANF, CSP referral and PDF; makes appropriate referrals to community-based programs such as EM, Alphabet Programs, ANRC, etc. when appropriate pending adjudication and disposition hearings; prepares, attends and testifies at court and detention hearings according to established protocol, and makes appropriate recommendations to the court. He/she also appropriately schedules all cases for juvenile court, submits all appropriate paperwork to the district attorney's office within established policies and properly documents all court dispositions; maintains, updates, and prepares juvenile case files in correct order and transfers cases to the appropriate unit according to established protocols; and performs all other duties as directed by the Juvenile Court Judge, the director, and supervisory staff. Minimum Education, Experience, and Training Requirements: Bachelor's degree in social or behavioral sciences, criminal justice, law enforcement or related field. Experience in a related field and/or internship. Act 33/34 clearances are required. Other Requirements: The individual in this position must check their emails and phone messages daily and respond to any emails/messages within a minimum of 24 business hours. He/she must also participate in primary and secondary court duty rotation. A valid driver's license and positive driving record, a favorable criminal background check and favorable child abuse and FBI clearances are required. Working during non-traditional hours may at times be required. Other Requirements: Probation Officers carry a firearm when they perform their duties, and they must pass their firearm certification each year. PHYSICAL/MENTAL CONDITIONS 1. Must be able to complete Phase I (classroom) Safety Training. 2. Must be able to complete Phase II (physical) Control Tactics Training. 3. Must be able to complete and maintain Act 158 Firearms Certification, stress fire, night shoot and continuing education training.
