  • Have no prior felony convictions or suspended imposition of a sentence;
  • A residence of St. Clair County, Illinois prior to completion of probationary period
  • a United States citizen and resident of Illinois within 90 days of appointment
  • Must be 21 years of age or upward
  • Possess strong time management and organizational skills;
  • Possess strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Possess a valid driver's license.

Norkus Court Services and Probation 20th Judicial Circuit State of Illinois Salary Range: $44, 928 - $76,378 Job Classification: Full-time Position JOB DESCRIPTION CORRECTIONS OFFICER The Corrections Officer is appointed by the Director of Court Services and Probation with the approval of the Chief Circuit Judge and has a Shift Supervisor or Acting Shift Supervisor as his/her immediate supervisor. At the discretion of the Director the appointee will serve a six-month probationary period. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES The Duties and responsibilities of the Corrections Office will include, but not be limited to the following:
  • Be available to assume and discharge the traditional duties or responsibilities of a detention officer as determined by management.
  • Provide supervision, guidance, care, and secure custody for youth held in detention.
  • Strive to attain constructive relationships with all detainees by developing trust and mutual respect, and by learning the interests, abilities, and problems of the youth.
  • Maintain direct involvement with youth by being present on the detention floor.
  • Encourage appropriate behavior of detainees through positive verbal communication.
  • Intervene in the event of an infraction of established rules and regulations.
  • In crisis situations, respond accordingly using the least physical force necessary and re-establish direct contact with the youth upon stabilization of the situation.
  • Maintain security by having constant visual contact and random room searches.
  • Maintain safe and secure transport of juveniles as directed.
  • Maintain a safe environment for residents and staff
  • Attend and participate in youth staffing, staff meetings, and/or training programs as assigned by the Superintendent.
  • Demonstrate support for fellow employees in the course of the performance of the job.
  • Maintain ability to work without supervision, but also possess ability to take direction or supervision and utilize a team approach to working with residents, detention officers, and other probation and court personnel.
