Performs routine supervisory work in the safekeeping of youth who have been placed in a secure detention and shelter care by enforcing rules, maintaining order, and monitoring activities. - Supervision of youth in a restrictive detention environment and shelter care facility;
- Conduct intake interviews of youth and document youth behaviors and emotional status;
- Provides basic care and supervision to youth;
- Monitors and assesses the behavioral and emotional characteristics of referred youth and provides additional supervision to prevent self-harm as needed;
- Regularly communicates orally, and in writing, any changes to youth, to all members of the youth care facility.
Minimum QualificationsEducation/Experience/Training:
- Graduation from a college or university of recognized standing with a bachelor's degree in Sociology, Psychology, Social Work, Criminal Justice, or closely related field; or
- Associate degree in Sociology, Psychology, Social Work, Criminal Justice, or closely related field; and two (2) years' experience working with youth in crisis.
- A combination of education, training, and experience totaling four (4) years in a closely related field will be considered.
Certifications:
- Valid Montana driver's license;
- CPR certification (within 6 months);
- CPI certification (within 6 months).
Supplemental Information This position is responsible for the supervision and guidance of youth residing in both the youth detention and shelter care facilities. The work is performed under the general direction and supervision of the Juvenile Care Supervisor, but nature of work allows an employee in this class to exercise critical thinking and decision-making skills. The nature of the work performed requires that an employee establish and maintain close cooperative working relationships with the youth under their supervision as well as the Juvenile Care Supervisor, the Youth Services Program Director and other program personnel.
