Job Description
JOB TITLE: Junior High School Counselor (Grades 6-8)
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Traits of successful applicants include a passion for working with adolescents, a collaborative approach to the education process, trauma-informed training, energy, and effective organizational and time management skills.
- Meet all legal and state requirements established by the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education for an MS or HS Counselor's certificate. (If the candidate is working toward certification in counseling, we encourage you to apply).
- Successful experience in public education, with a minimum of two years as a classroom teacher.
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board of Education may find appropriate.
- The individual must possess effective communication skills with students, parents, and staff members.
JOB GOAL: To provide a comprehensive guidance program for students in grades to be determined, including a guidance curriculum, individual planning, responsive services, and system support, with a possible emphasis on transition to Post-Secondary Training.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Implement the appropriate grade-level guidance curriculum.Guide and counsel individual students and groups through educational and career planning.Counsel small groups and individual students with problems.Coordinate, conduct, or participate in activities that contribute to the operation of the school.Consult with teachers, staff, and parents regarding students' developmental needs.Refer students with severe problems to community agencies in consultation with parents and administration.Assist with public relations programs in the community as needed.Evaluate and revise the guidance program regularly.Attend relevant staff development programs, workshops, and conferences.Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor or administration.TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Salary, workday, and year to be established by the Board of Education. Salary is based on experience and degree. Counselors will be employed for additional days beyond the normal contract year, with the number of days determined upon hire.
SALARY: The Kingston K-14 School District honors all years earned from other districts. The counseling position has a 20-day extended contract, competitive benefits, and a base salary of $40,000.
EVALUATION: Performance will be evaluated based on a performance-based system according to the Board of Education policy for certificated personnel.
