Responsibilities A Journeyman Station Meter and Relay Technician is a Journeyman qualified to install, maintain, adjust, test and repair all substation and generating station meters, relay and control equipment, such as meters, governors, solid state exciters, computerized controls systems, and may work on other apparatus within their qualifications involved with the operation and maintenance of the Company's facilities. The Employee shall normally work under the direction of a Lead Station Meter and Relay Technician or Senior Station Meter and Relay Technician, however, when working in a single journeyman assignment, no upgrade to Lead Technician is warranted. The Employee must have a working knowledge of all relay and control schemes sufficient to enable them to diagnose and correct troubles on station meter, relay and remote control equipment, including supervisory and telemetering. They shall be qualified to and will prepare reports and records incidental to the work. The Employee shall also be responsible for meter, relay, and control equipment, and electrical control system, including vehicles, tools, test equipment, spare parts and supplies provided by the Company. Working conditions of this position include the following: Technicians may work alone or in crews, which may include workers from another trade. Technicians may work under the direction of others or be required to direct the work of others, depending on the work being performed. Work may include adverse weather conditions and/or long hours during emergency conditions or to minimize impact to customers. The technician may be required to work in confined spaces or on elevated platforms, which can include bucket trucks, ladders, scaffolding, & elevated platforms. Work may be near moving mechanical parts, dust, fumes, noise, water, or in close proximity to cables & conductors energized above 600 volts Requirements A high school diploma, GED or equivalent combination of education and experience. Has successfully completed an electrical apprenticeship or equivalent program. 4 years experience in the meter & relay trade. Must pass a pre-qualifying skills test. Good driving record. Physical exam required. Location This position will be assigned to the 194-megawatt (MW) North Umpqua Hydroelectric Project which is located in south central Oregon in a remote area of Douglas County, about 60 miles east of Roseburg. Flyfishing, whitewater boating, camping, hiking, waterfall viewing, and scenic driving are premier recreation activities. The clear water, large Douglas-fir stands, and geologic formations add to the spectacular scenery. The river is known for a variety of resident and anadromous fish species, including summer and winter steelhead, fall and spring chinook salmon, coho salmon, and sea-run cutthroat trout. With the exception of some transmission facilities, the North Umpqua Hydroelectric Project is located entirely within the Umpqua National Forest. On-site residency is required of this position.
