The Waste, Streets & Recycling ( WSR ) Assistant Manager assists in developing and implementing procedures for disposing of waste, hazardous waste, hazardous recycling, recycling, and contaminated materials per governmental regulations and University goals. The WSR Assistant Manager assists in developing systems to track, purchase, and care for all waste, streets, and recycling duties and infrastructure, including parking lots, snow and ice control, street sweeping, and recycling collection. The WSR Assistant Manager is responsible for the direct supervision of the equipment, employee time management, purchases, requisitions, and management support. The WSR assistant manager is responsible for filling in for the manager, supervisors, and CDL drivers in the event of an absence and any time the need is presented. Working independently and as a team, exercising good judgment and discretion is essential to this job.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • As essential personnel: you are expected to be available in the event of school closings, delays, shutdowns, and any emergencies, including clean-up required because of severe weather incidents. Performs snow removal activities as assigned, such as plowing, shoveling, spreading chemicals, etc. Facilities Management Division employees are essential to the overall success of Liberty University and its day-to-day functions, especially during ongoing campus events such as Winter Fest, Orientation, Convocation, Commencement, CFAW, and summer camps, amongst other planned and unplanned events throughout the year. Must be available to work scheduled and unscheduled hours as emergency needs arise.
  • Reports to work at the required time and performs duties as assigned by the WSR manager.
  • Responsible for wearing the appropriate Personal Protective Equipment () while operating Grounds related equipment, including but not limited to; protective eyewear, ear protection, hard hat, gloves, steel-toed boots, respirators/ masks, reflective safety vests, and sunscreen.
  • Responsible for wearing a harness with a lanyard and other if operating aerial lifts to perform & complete assigned jobs.
  • Responsible for assistance in planning, coordinating, and directing the activities of all WSR maintenance and operations activities to ensure that the work is performed.
  • Works proactively with the WSR Manager to develop and implement long-range plans.
  • Assistant Manager is responsible for tracking and accounting for everyday operations and routines of waste removal programs.
  • Works to ensure that every location on the Liberty campus receives proper waste removal services on their designated days.
  • Assists in ensuring waste disposal services run as efficiently as possible.
  • Follows daily and weekly work assignments.
  • Will coordinate with WSR manager, supervisors, technicians, and leads to work as a team and complete assigned tasks.
  • Responsible for equipment maintenance, cleaning, coordination reporting, scheduling, or repairs.
  • Upkeeps all accountability systems for labor and equipment, including databases, spreadsheets, and paperwork.
  • Responsible for assisting in the coordination of any WSR-related subcontractors.
  • Thorough knowledge of campus should be established quickly.
  • Leadership ability to plan and direct work for self and team.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule when needed, including some nights and weekends.
  • Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Must provide hand tools to perform and complete trade-related tasks.
  • Remains abreast of existing and emerging technologies, processes, products, services, and leading industry performance benchmarks.

QUALIFICATIONS AND CREDENTIALSEducation and ExperienceThis position requires a high school diploma or GED. 5+ years of experience in administrative and managerial experience in grounds maintenance, maintenance, waste, or recycling preferred-well-developed communications skills. CDL requires and reputable driving record. Previous experience managing and leading crews. Leadership experience, skills, and ability to problem solve required. State Driver's license and insurable with the company's agent. Must understand, follow instructions, and work under limited supervision. Must work well with the public and co-workers and present a positive attitude. Exceptional self-management. Desire to work with a team to accomplish goals with the urgency to grow and improve. Knowledge in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel) and excellent computer skills are required. Clean and professional appearance. Must be courteous, detailed oriented. Self-motivated, diligent, and trustworthy; possess strong organizational and planning skills and well-developed communication skills. Must be able to lift 50+ pounds and perform duties of the Grounds maintenance trade in a typical Virginia climate. Certifications obtained while employed by Liberty University at the employer's expense will be reimbursed back to the University upon voluntary termination (resignation) for the first 12 months after acquiring it.ABILITIES AND COMPETENCIES ESSENTIAL TO THE FUNCTION OF THE JOBCommunication and Comprehension

  • Frequently required to travel to on and off-campus locations.

  • Required to be able to stand, walk, and climb stairs to move around campus for extended periods.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 + pounds.
  • Must be able to work on weekends, holidays, flexible daily hours, and various evening hours.
  • Ability to use radio and telephone to communicate and follow written and verbal instructions. Must be able to stand for extended periods.
  • Must be able to perform physically demanding work in various physical positions, including sitting, bending, standing, walking, and driving.
WORKING CONDITIONSWork EnvironmentThe working environment in which one will typically perform the essential functions of this position is an office, shop, and outdoor settings, and defined by the weather. While work involves some exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, toxic chemical, biohazardous materials, dirt dust, fumes, smoke, and/or loud noises; the use of Personal protective equipment will be provided and required to be used.
