Position Overview

Under general supervision, works extensively with the incident management system and is responsible for providing technical support, staff support, analysis and development, and continuing improvement of all related equipment and software in the facility. Effectively communicates by providing insight in non-technical terms to users of varying skills as needed. Acts as the liaison between external support vendors on major projects, moves or changes to the existing IT structure.

Summary of Job Duties

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Technical Support

  • Performs technical services including analysis, diagnostics, database system and file backups, maintenance and support of database management, and computer networking and other systems.
  • Collaborate with vendors to ensure that all network implementations and operations comply with industry standards.

Staff Support/Help Desk

  • Troubleshoots and provides user support in resolving network, hardware, personal computers, software, and printer problems.
  • Provides dedicated desktop environment support to facility by identifying and resolving desktop environment issues.

Training/Orientation

  • Provides training to technical staff and users.
  • Provides initial system access and training to new staff.

Analysis and Development

  • Identifies information requirements by conferring with clients; analyzing operations; evaluating input and output requirements and formats.
  • Improves current systems by studying practices, procedures, and problems; designing modifications; evaluating new software products.
  • Participates in the implementation of new applications and technologies to workstations through collaboration with vendors.

Operational Duties

  • Maintains vendor relationships.
  • Maintains system documentation and inventory of IT related supplies.

Improvement

  • Improves MCCI IS/IT efficiency by researching software & hardware, planning for growth, expansion, and development of further automation.
  • Maintains technical knowledge by participating in training opportunities, workshops, professional & Internet based publications.
  • Consistently utilizes critical thinking and analytic abilities in seeking and resolving issues.

Working Conditions

  • Potential exists of exposure to disease/illness.
  • This is a minimum-security facility, therefore all outside access doors are locked at all times.

Physical Requirements

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

  • Ability to lift, pull, push, and manipulate equipment.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50lbs on a frequent basis.
  • Ability to sit and/or stand for long periods of time.
  • Ability to operate an automobile.
  • Ability to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop; kneel; crouch; or crawl.

Minimum Qualifications and Requirements

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Two (2) years customer service experience.
  • Be able to obtain HDI Troubleshooting and Problem-Solving certification within two (2) years of appointment to role.
  • Interpersonal skills to maintain ordinary courtesy and tact to communicate effectively with staff, administration, callers, and visitors, as well as providing non-technical training for MCCI staff.
  • Willing to learn and work independently with a minimum of supervision and direction.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and make decisions based on logic and critical thinking.
  • Ability to concentrate and pay attention to detail; have knowledge of safety and security.
  • Some experience and familiarity with correctional institutions, Windows Operating Systems and Microsoft Products.
  • Must have a valid State of Ohio Drivers License.

  • Seasonal Employees: Benefits include Sick Leave accrued at 4.6 hours for every eighty 80 hours in active pay status. Seasonal employees scheduled to work 40 hours during their period of employment will accrue vacation in the same manner as regular full-time employees and can use their vacation after completion of twenty-six (26) bi-weekly pay periods in active pay status.
  • Part-time Seasonal employees (scheduled to work less than 40 hours) do not accrue vacation.
  • Intermittent and Temporary Employees: Long-Term Sick Leave accrual is based on hours worked.
