This position is located in the Department of Health and Human Services, Office of the Chief Information Officer, headquartered in Washington, District of Columbia.
WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING DAY TO DAY
As an IT Specialist (CustSPT/INFOSEC), you will use your knowledge of and experience to optimize business results and customer experience by:
- Advises customers on and executes standardized processes and tools for effective operations, troubleshooting, and updating of computer, printer, mobile/wireless equipment, and tracking.
- Responds to and resolves problems with software, hardware, and systems management.
- Performs activities that gather information for the purpose of mitigating or remediating possible or real-time threats or vulnerabilities, protect against internal or external IT security threats or activities.
- Researches options for problem resolutions and recommends new IT security tools and/or options to senior specialists and/or supervisor for disseminating policy or security guidance to customers, for the purpose of enhancing the IT security stance of the agency.

Qualifications
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
Undergraduate or Graduate Education: Degree in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management or degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks.
There are two ways to qualify for this position:
EDUCATION:
- You must possess a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree
OR
- 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree
OR
- Have a combination of specialized experience as described above and graduate level education as described above.
EXPERIENCE:
Basic Requirement: For all grade levels, individuals must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below.
- Attention to Detail - Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail.
- Customer Service - Works with clients and customers to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; is committed to providing quality products and services.
- Oral Communication - Expresses information effectively to individuals or groups, taking into account the audience and nature of the information.
- Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations.
AND
Specialized Experience:
For the GS-11: Must have at least one year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-09 level in the Federal service performing three (3) of the following:
- Planning, coordinating, and/or delivering of customer support IT equipment and services including supporting a centralized IT helpdesk, installation, training, configuration, troubleshooting, and technical guidance.
- Assisting with the implementation of policy, program, or systemic security requirements for production information technology (IT) operations and related services;
- Ensuring that system-level security controls are communicated, implemented, and documented;
- Developing and/or interpreting policies, procedures, and/or strategies governing the planning and delivery of IT customer support;
- Support IT projects/initiatives, including enterprise-level IT assets or cloud technology.

Incentives may be authorized; however, this is contingent upon multiple factors, including funds availability. If authorized, certain incentives may require you to sign a service agreement to remain in the Federal government for a period of up to 3 years.
