Hiring Agency Public Protection Cabinet | Dept of Alcoholic Beverage Control Location Location Varies, USA Description The Alcoholic Beverage Control Board develops and enforces reasonable administrative regulations relative tothe sale and use of alcoholic beverages, tobacco, nicotine and vapor products. The Department of AlcoholicBeverage Control includes various divisions as follows: the Commissioner's office, the Distilled Spirits andMalt Beverage divisions, an administrative services branch, a licensing division, an education branch, a legaldivision and an enforcement division. We are looking for an Investigator II to join our team of highly skilled professional. As an Investigator IIyou will conduct complex and sensitive investigations and enforcement of Kentucky and federal alcohol andtobacco laws. Searches, surveys, apprehends and arrests persons suspected of violating laws; and other dutiesas required. Investigators are highly skilled members of a team of law enforcement professionals who work to provide avital link between the alcohol industry and the citizens of the Commonwealth. From the initial inspection ofa prospective new premises to the use of investigative techniques in mitigating access of alcohol and tobaccoto minors, our investigators work to safeguard communities across the Commonwealth. The Kentucky Alcoholic Beverage Control is a participating Kentucky Law Enforcement Foundation Program Fund(KLEFPF) agency. Investigators are required to possess and maintain a Peace Officer Professional Standards(POPS) certificate. Investigators currently receive an additional $4,562.00 training stipend each year foradhering to the training guidelines established by the Kentucky Law Enforcement Council (KLEC). Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Conducts complex and sensitive investigations such as death or fatal collisioninvestigations. Assists in training and mentoring newly hired investigators. Completes and submitsadministrative paperwork and other required documentation for administrative andcriminal assignments.
  • Plans, organizes, coordinates, reviews the work of a group of investigators including, but not limitedto, search warrant planning and execution, investigation of cases and executingemergency suspension orders. Investigates complaints.
  • Conducts required number of tobacco inspections. Issues administrative citations and/orwarnings for tobacco violations under KRS Chapter 438. Achieves and maintains Federal Drug Administration(FDA) Commission status. Follows guidelines of FDA Program Coordinator andtestifies at FDA hearings.
  • Searches, seizes, catalogs, marks and secures evidence and contraband while maintaining chain of custody.
  • Complies with all standards contained within the agency's Procedure Manual.
  • Recruits Investigative Aides and supervises them during enforcement operations.
  • Testifies at administrative and criminal proceedings.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Skills and Expectations include but are not limited to the following:
  • Possess and maintain a Peace Officer Professional Standards (POPS) law enforcement officer certificationthrough the Kentucky Law Enforcement Council (KLEC).

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS:Must have four years experience in the field of investigative law enforcement or a related field of investigation. Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE:NONE Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION:Experience as a sworn law enforcement officer will substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.):Must be 21 years of age. Must possess a valid driver's license prior to employment in this job classification. Employees in this classification are subject to the provisions of KRS Chapter 15 and 503 KAR 1:140 relating to peace officer certification as administered by the Kentucky Law Enforcement Council.
