The New York City Department of Investigation (“DOI”) is one of the oldest law enforcement agencies in the country with a mission of combating municipal corruption. It serves the people of New York City by acting as an independent and nonpartisan watchdog for the government, City agencies, City employees, vendors with City contracts, and entities receiving City funds.
The Department of Investigation's Office of the Inspector General for the NYPD (OIG-NYPD) investigates, reviews, audits, and makes recommendations regarding NYPD operations, policies, and practices to enhance effectiveness, public safety, civil liberties, and confidence in the police force.
We seek an Investigative Attorney to conduct confidential investigations into NYPD operations, policies, and practices. Responsibilities include reviewing police reports, interviewing personnel and the public, analyzing evidence, and drafting detailed investigative reports. The role also involves liaising with NYPD and other agencies, updating staff on relevant developments, and researching legal and policy issues.
The ideal candidate is conscientious, self-motivated, a creative thinker, and capable of working independently and in teams. Background checks, fingerprinting, and credit history reviews are part of the hiring process.
