Interviewing Clerk

This is a para-professional work position interviewing applicants in reference to their eligibility to receive services for Immunization, STD, HIV/AIDS, TB, Family Planning, Presumptive Eligible Pregnant Women (PEPW) Medicaid Program, and Dental. The goal of this position is to screen all applicants according to the guidelines established by the Primary Care Proposal protocol and Title X and the PEPW applicants according to the guidelines established by Agency for Health Care Administration (ACHA). This position is a rotating position as needed, covering various clinics. Incumbent serves as Interview Clerk for the clinics performing duties which involve work assignments that require independent judgment to accomplish. Incumbent must have knowledge of routine procedures for the Health Department and Departmental operations. This position includes but is not limited to answering phones, scheduling client appointments, triaging necessary calls to the providers, checking in clients for clinic visits, ensuring the demographic and insurance information is updated at each visit, ensuring the financial information is updated on an annual basis prior to check-in, reminder calls, preparation of charts at check-in, various other clerical functions to ensure the front end of the clinic runs smooth and ensuring all needed forms are signed by the client as required by the clinic protocols. This position is supervised by the Sr. Clerical Supervisor.

Check-in clients for clinic visits ensuring the demographic and insurance information is updated at each visit, ensuring the financial information is updated on an annual basis prior to check-in, preparation of charts at check-in and obtain all needed signatures on documents needed for each visit. Obtain insurance pre-authorizations for clinic visits when needed. Answering phones, scheduling clients for office visits, triaging calls as necessary to the providers. Ensure reminder calls are made to clients before each visit. General clerical duties as needed.

Full cross training within the Eligibility Department. Provides lunch coverage as needed in clinics. Performs other duties as assigned by Supervisor.

  • Ability to record and evaluate data relating to applicant employment or assistance for healthcare or community services.
  • Ability to understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies and procedures relating to applicant employment or assistance for healthcare and community services.
  • Ability to review data for accuracy and completeness.
  • Ability to perform basic arithmetical calculations.
  • Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments. Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with others.
  • Basic math skills.
  • Professionalism (appearance, speaking, writing, customer service, internal and external client, etc.).

Qualifications:

Minimum- 6 months of customer service experience 6 months of general office experience Preferred- Bilingual in Spanish Experience working face to face with the public Demonstrated experience with excel
