SummaryThe Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Intermediate Care Technician (ICT) Program is designed to hire transitioning service members, National Guard, Reserve, and Veteran corpsmen, combat medics, and medical technicians into positions at VA Medical Centers as part of the medical team. Candidates generally qualify based on U.S. Armed Forces experience or equivalent education.

Duties

  • Perform ongoing patient care duties in outpatient settings, assist with or perform technical health procedures under supervision, especially suited for former military medics and technicians.
  • Conduct observation-based screening, collect patient information, complete clinical templates, and assist in behavioral/psychiatric situations.
  • Maintain a safe, therapeutic environment, assist with medical evaluations, operate specialized equipment, and prepare specimens.
  • Monitor patient status, recognize emergencies, perform CPR and AED use if certified, and document actions thoroughly in EHR.

Work Schedule: Intermittent Monday to Friday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm PST; availability required 1-2 days per pay-period.

Physical Requirements: Extended periods of bending, standing, walking, and physical exertion for patient assistance.

Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications: Military experience as a Hospital Corpsman, Combat Medic, or Medical Technician is highly desired, with specific military occupational specialties listed.
